II. COURSE DESCRIPTION
Chinese 3 places a greater emphasis on advanced communication skills. The student
continues to expand his/her vocabulary and studies essential concepts of grammar in depth.
Listening and speaking skills are emphasized while reading and writing skills are further
developed. The student also continues the exploration of the cultures and history of
Chinese-speaking countries through a variety of literature and media.
III. COURSE GOALS
1. The student will communicate in Chinese by listening, speaking, reading and writing the
language.
2. The student will gain knowledge and understanding of the cultures of Chinese-speaking
countries.
3. The student will connect Chinese learning with other disciplines.
4. The student will develop insights into the nature of language and culture by comparing
Chinese-speaking cultures with his/her own culture.
5. The student will use the Chinese language at home, at school, and in the community.
IV. ATTENDANCE
This class will follow all Sunny Hills Attendance policies. A student is tardy if he/she is not in the
assigned seat at the beginning of class. A student who is late for more than 20 minutes is marked as
absent. Homework assignments, tests, and quizzes may be made up for excused absences only.

3. Textbook, workbook, and current lecture notes/handouts given by the teacher
VI. GRADING POLICY
Grades will be based on a point system. Each student can earn up to three points a day by following
class rules and fully participating in class activities. Total points assigned for each homework, class
work, quiz, test, skit, or presentation vary depending on the length and difficulty of the tasks. Two
points are deducted everyday for late work submitted after due date. The total number of points
earned against the total points possible will determine the student’s final grade. Each student is
given four “5 Minute Hall Pass” at the beginning of each semester. Each unused pass will add ½
percent to the student’s final grade at the end of the semester. Grades will not be rounded up.
98.0 – 100 % = A+
92.0 – 97.9% = A
90.0 – 91.9% = A–
88.0 – 89.9% = B+
82.0 – 87.9% = B
80.0 – 81.9% = B–
68.0 – 69.9% = D+
62.0 – 67.9% = D
60.0 – 61.9% = D–
Below 60 % = F
78.0 – 79.9% = C+
72.0 – 77.9% = C
