Goal Setting Learning Outcome:
Students will set personal and academic goals, explore career options, and develop a
semester-by-semester plan of study through degree completion.
In-Class Assignment
DUE: Class Session #13
1. Long and Short Term Goal Worksheet
Complete the Long-Term/Short-Term Goals worksheets found in the workbook for
your personal life and professional life in class. Worksheets will be returned to the
instructor at the end of the class period.
2. Career Assessment (Complete in–class as time and technology permit) –
Complete the “Interest Profiler” under the Learn About Yourself menu from
the “Plan for a Career” tab at CFNC.org
a. In Moodle, from the Session 3 block under assignments access the link
“ Interest Profiler from CFNC. Org.”

b. Select the Interest Profiler button. You will be prompted to set up an
account first to complete the “Interest Profiler.” After setting up your
account, you should be re-directed back to the “Interest Profiler.”
Print out the results, review and submit to your Instructor.

3. Semester-by-Semester Plan of Study –
Make an appointment with your advisor before the registration period to create
a plan of study.
Bring the 4 following items to the meeting with your advisor:
a) Degree checklist - Degree checklists can often be found outside of the
department chair’s door and/or online on the College’s website.
b) Program Evaluation - You should have printed this while completing Core
Assessment 1. The Program Evaluation can be found on WebAdvisor. To
do so, click on “Students.” “Program Evaluation” is on the right hand side
of the screen under “Academic Profile.”
c) Advisor Questionnaire – A hard copy is located on a separate page in the
workbook. An electronic copy can be found in Moodle under
assignments in the Session 3 block titled “
Advisor Questionnaire.”

d) Semester-by-Semester Plan of Study Form: You should already have some
parts of this form completed prior to meeting with your advisor. Brainstorm
ideas for future semesters’ coursework, and consider any transfer plans, if
applicable, before the meeting. A hard copy is located in your workbook.
An electronic copy can be found in Moodle under assignments in the
Session 3 block titled “
Semester-by-Semester Plan of Study Form.”
At the meeting, work jointly with your advisor to develop your Semester-bySemester Plan of Study through graduation.
a) Take from the meeting a hardcopy of the completed Semester-bySemester Plan of Study.
b) Ask if your advisor can e-mail you a copy of the Semester-by-Semester
Plan of Study so that each has an electronic file for future reference and
modification.
c) Ask your advisor to complete the Advisor Questionnaire and give it back
to you for submission.
Advisor Responsibilities:
1. The advisor and student should jointly develop a plan of study for the student
through degree completion. Each individual should leave the meeting with a
copy of the Semester-by-Semester Plan of Study.
2. Ideally, the advisor should e-mail the student a copy of the Semester-bySemester Plan of Study so that each has an electronic file for future reference
and modification.
3. The advisor will complete the Advisor Questionnaire and return it to the student
at the meeting.
Helpful Hints:
1. Make an appointment with your advisor in advance. Keep the appointment! If
an emergency arises, contact the advisor to reschedule.
2. Come prepared with all of the documents mentioned above: Degree Checklist,
Program Evaluation, Plan of Study (with tentative coursework penciled in), and
Advisor Questionnaire.
