CFRU News & Additional Summer Programming Assistant

About CFRU:
CFRU 93.3FM (Guelph, Ontario) volunteer-driven campus and community radio station,
committed to broadcasting high quality, innovative and entertaining music and spoken-word
programming which serves as a distinct alternative to other available radio and media outlets.
We pride ourselves in providing a supportive environment for a diversity of people to have the
opportunity to safely express themselves in work, learning and volunteer opportunities.
Description of Duties:
CFRU 93.3FM (Guelph, Ontario) is seeking a student to assist in programming at the station
over our summer season in coordination with current staff. The position will focus on developing
local news coordination to be presented on-air, as well as overnight programming and
syndication opportunities.
Duties will include:
1. Leading a local news team to coordinate community news to be presented on-air;
2. Building overnight programming (through new program development or syndication);
3. Liaise with other campus/community radio stations;
4. Liaise with on-campus professors to build connections to our Edu Radio program;
5. Coordinate show fill-in and training during our slow season.
Qualifications:
 A passion for campus/community radio;
 Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of CFRU’s programming, guiding
principles, and initiatives;
 One or more of a) knowledge of audio recording and digital editing b) interviewing and
journalistic experience c) some radio and sound production experience d) other relevant
media expertise;
 Self-motivation and a willingness to initiate projects;
 An awareness of anti-oppression and diversity in Guelph and area communities;
 The ability to interpret and articulate CFRU's policies;
 A lively and energetic personality, invested in building relationships;
 Experience volunteering at CFRU or other campus-community radio stations is generally
an asset.
To be eligible to participate in the CSJ initiative, individuals must:

be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;



have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to
return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has
been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act3; and,
be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial
legislation and regulations.
