Job Title: e-Learning Resources Centre Facilitator
Responsible to: e-Learning Manager
Date: April 2014

Purpose of job: To support the e-Learning Manager in the development of the use of learning
technologies and the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).
Responsibilities
A
e-Learning
 Deliver staff inductions in the use of the VLE and the electronic Individual Learning Profile (e-ILP)
 Develop training resources for access by staff online through the VLE including video tutorials and
podcasts
 Deliver regular staff training in the application of e-Learning and ILT based tools including the VLE and
e-ILP
 Liaise with Subject Learning Coaches, Curriculum Heads and Programme Leaders to develop
exemplar courses and training modules on the VLE
 Maintain knowledge of current innovation in the sector regarding the use of learning technologies
 Support the e-Learning Manager in managing the administration of the VLE and e-ILP and dealing with
queries

Support for Learners
 To supervise learners in the College’s Learning Resource Centres (LRCs) and study areas ensuring






they are engaged in appropriate activity and the area is welcoming for all
To provide front line support for learner account queries and passwords
To provide front line VLE support for learners
To provide front line support for learners accessing the College e-ILP
To provide front line assistance to learners with basic computer software, e.g. Microsoft Office
To provide front line assistance for learners with the LRC technical equipment, e.g. scanners, printers
To provide a high quality level of customer service for all users of the LRCs

Learning Resources
 To carry out circulation functions on the library database for learners and staff
 To assist learners in researching work and finding material using paper based resources and online
resources through the College Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), Athens and other sources
 To assist in the delivery of induction and subsequent training sessions on Information Literacy and
College learning resources for learners and staff
 To carry out resource ordering, classification, cataloguing, shelving and stock checks
 To assist in the preparation of e-learning resources and guides to other learning resources
 To update LRC information on the VLE
 To liaise with the allocated Curriculum area to advise and identify their learning resource needs
 To assist in the collection of data for statistics on LRC resource usage to support the LRC Supervisor

Administrative
 To assist in the collection of fines and other learning resource charges
 To liaise with IT Services to ensure technical problems are dealt with efficiently to minimise disruption
to users
 To maintain learner and staff registration details and issue identity badges
 To assist the e-Learning Manager with the administration of budgets
 To work across the College sites as necessary in order to meet the needs of the service
 To participate in exchange of duty activities with other areas of Learner Services
 To promote and contribute to the development of the LRC and Learner Services
 To contribute to the annual operational and three yearly development plans for the LRC and Learner
Services
 To support the induction of new members of the service for the LRC Supervisor

College’s internal referral arrangements

Requirement
Essential
Experience
 Previous experience of working in a customer
service or education environment
 Experience of library/learning resource centre
 Experience of Virtual Learning Environments
Education/Training/Qualifications
 Educated to level 2 (GCSE equivalent)
 Level 3 or equivalent qualification in IT
 Appropriate teaching/training qualification
Specialist Knowledge
 Good working knowledge of basic Microsoft
Office packages
 Good working knowledge of the internet
 Knowledge of library management systems
 Knowledge of Virtual Learning Environments
 Knowledge of academic databases
 Basic knowledge of standard operating
systems and web authoring
Skills
 Good interpersonal and communication skills
