Setting the Census Folder Location
When you run the census, Sims needs an area on your computer that it can use to store
the census files. You will need to set the Census Folder location in SIMS.
If you plan to use a folder that has been previously set up, you may find it useful to
delete the current content before creating the new return, this will save any confusion
when finding and sending the census file later on.
If you have not already set up the Census folder, or wish to change its location, please

Create a Folder on Your Desktop
We recommend that you create a folder on your desktop called School Census Jan
2015 (NB. the name of the folder is not important, as long as you know what it’s called
and where it is).
Navigate to your PC desktop
Right click on the Desktop > New > Folder> name the folder
Please be aware that when you run the census it will populate this folder with
confidential data. It is not advised to run the census on a shared workstation that is
accessed by people not privy to census information.
When the census file has been authorised, and you are ready to upload to Collect, this
is the folder that you will find your Census file in.
Open the folder you want to use for the census, right click in the Address bar and
copy the location.
On a Windows 7 machine, you need to click at the end of the truncated file path to show
the full file path.

Setting the Census Folder Location

Click OK
On the next screen you will see that the Census Folder box is highlighted in red,
indicating that Sims cannot find the specified folder. This needs to be changed so that
