We are “PuRRR-fect” at Edgewood
For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to be an elementary school educator. I often reflect back on how my fifth
grade teacher changed my life. I was amazed at her passion and perseverance to make us all better students. Through
my educational experience, the past seventeen years serving as a classroom teacher, lead teacher, curriculum
implementation specialist, and principal, my excitement and love for school and this district has grown substantially. I
know, without hesitation, that I made the right choice in choosing to serve in the District of Muskegon Heights.
It is my pleasure to extend a warm and friendly welcome to you as we move forward this school year. Many great
accomplishments have already begun with our volunteers, including: The Fall Garden Program, Library, Misty the dog
from Ruff Readers, Ms. Allison, and the Muskegon Lumberjacks Reading program. We are eagerly anticipating our
mentors and our new program Project Focus to begin. Thank you to all who attended our, “Passport to Success” Open
House on September 10th, it was a huge success.
October will be a busy month as we look forward to our Fall “Red Carpet Festival”, which will take place on October 1st,
COUNT DAY, our fire prevention program and Parent-Teacher conferences. Thank You for your continued support and
patience as we work to make this the best year yet at Edgewood Elementary.

~~~~~~~Student of the Month~~~~~~~
Kaden Lawrence is a first grader at Edgewood Elementary in the classroom of Ms. Price. Through the
guidance of his mother Darresa Allen, Kaden exhibits excellent attendance and his academic performance
exceeds expectations.
Kaden is a very sweet, kind, responsible young man who is helpful to his classmates and his teacher. He is
a great cooperative learner and takes that life skill into his recess play and school day academics. Kaden
also represents the school on the student leadership team. He enjoys reading and likes to make new
friends and wants to come to school every day to learn so that he can grow up to be a police officer.
Kaden Lawrence
Kaden enjoys spending his free time away from school playing Xbox and riding his orange and black bike.
His favorite color is blue. He enjoys eating his mother’s cooked chicken nuggets and playing with his
brothers, sisters, and cousins. His personality can be described as well mannered, polite, and caring.
Congratulations Kaden on being the Edgewood Elementary Student of the Month for October 2014.
THANK YOU TO ALL THE VOLUNTEERS!
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all of the volunteers for the countless hours they dedicate to
working with the students at Edgewood Elementary. Your presence does not go unnoticed or unappreciated!
