Position Description Job Title: Senior Turbine Array Engineer Office: London, UK Employment Type: Full Time Salary: Negotiable Start Date: Q2 2012 Line Manager: David Collier, Project Manager Overview The successful candidate will be responsible for optimising the turbine array for the MeyGen Project. The role includes fully characterising the tidal and wave environment at the MeyGen site and optimising the turbine array to minimise cost of energy in a phased buildout programme. Responsibilities will include leading the flow modelling activities; running ocean models using MIKE 21 HDFM by DHI; implementing tidal turbine numerical parameterisations; managing validation activities and optimisation work leading to reliable energy yield estimates. Main Responsibilities Optimisation of the MeyGen tidal turbine array locations and rated power; Management of the collection of environmental survey data and full characterisation of the flows; Validation of flow models against site measurements and other available data; Management of the analysis of CFD steady state and transient models of tidal turbines at device scale using both resolved geometry and turbine parameterisations in ANSYS CFX; Management of the analysis of 2D depth-averaged MIKE 21 flow models using turbine numerical parameterisations and post-processing using Matlab and MS Excel; Liaison with the management team to ensure that the requirements to fully optimise the revenue stream are fully understood and taken into account throughout the business; Liaison with third party providers of flow models and academic institutions considered experts in this field to ensure a seamless transfer of data and knowledge; Presentation of Flow Modelling results to Senior Management and Shareholders; Liaison with tidal turbine developers and relevant Balance of Plant Suppliers during design phase of equipment in order to assist with loading calculations. Experience in taking challenging non-linear problems to a successful conclusion in a related activity and/or industry. 2. Proven ability to show initiative, demonstrate strong leadership skills and excellent communication skills at all levels. 3. Strong analytical degree, and proven ability to demonstrate an analytical approach to problem solving. 4. Programming skills, particularly with Matlab and MS Excel. 5. Previous experience in ocean modelling, coastal process models and running large CFD projects an advantage. 6. Experience in developing optimisation processes an advantage. 7. Genuine interest in marine renewable energy. MeyGen MeyGen Ltd.
