Mrs. Marcklinger’s Study Hall Expectations
1. What is the purpose of study hall?
 Study hall is an opportunity for you to complete your homework, study and read. My job is to create a
study hall environment where students can work easily. In order to maintain a quiet working
environment free of distraction, it may seem that my study hall expectations are very strict. These
expectations are necessary though to make sure you have an environment you can work in. If you
choose not to do homework during study hall, I expect that you bring an activity you can do silently and
on your own.
2. What should I bring to study hall?
 Come to study hall prepared to work SILENTLY:
o homework for all classes
o materials to study
o a book or silent activity
3. What should you do if you are done with homework?
 read, study or draw…
The only activities you can do when you finish your homework are silent activities such as reading, studying
or drawing, so please come prepared. My class library is always available for you to borrow a book. “I don’t
have my book” means that you came unprepared for study hall and you will just have to sit silently.
4. Can I go to the bathroom and my locker?
 Yes. Once. So please plan on being allowed to leave one time. I will have you sign out next to your name,
and once you use this pass, you are no longer allowed to leave again. Practice good planning ahead skills
and come to study hall prepared. When many students leave many times, it causes a distraction.
5. Can I see my teacher?
 Yes… but you need a signature because not every teacher is available during study hall. Plan accordingly.
If while in class you anticipate that you may need to see your teacher during study hall, ask them for a
pass at the end of class. You can also ask them between 7th and 8th period.
6. Can I do my homework with my friend? Can I study with my friend?
 I’m sorry… no. If you need help please arrange to stay for ELT with your teacher or get together with
your friend after school. Study hall needs to be a quiet place all students can work and do so without
distractions. Working with friends creates too many distractions.
Please sign below acknowledging you understand the expectations for study hall.
