S.E.A.R.C.H. PROCEDURE MANUAL
“We are the world; we are the children, so let’s start giving…
It’s true we’ll make a better day, just you and me.”
Michael Jackson

Mrs. Potter, S.E.A.R.C.H. Teacher

Meaning
Meaning is not something you stumble across, like the answer to a
riddle or the prize in a treasure hunt. Meaning is something you build into your
life. You build it out of your own past, out of your affections and loyalties, out
of the experience of humankind as it is passed on to you, out of your own talent
and understanding, out of the things you believe in, out of the things and people
you love, out of the values for which you are willing to sacrifice something. The
ingredients are there. You are the only one who can put them together into that
pattern that will be your life. Let it be a life that has dignity and meaning for
you. If it does, then the particular balance of success or failure is of less
account.
-John Gardner

Hallway Procedures
We have silent halls. You will not be picked up by your teacher, but you will be expected to
leave the classroom at the appropriate SEARCH time and travel down the hall in a silent line.
If I am not in the room, please wait outside the S.E.A.R.C.H. classroom door or the gym.
During this time you will remain silent. Do not enter the classroom if the teacher is not in the
room.
Sky Ranch students will travel by bus to Fisher Elementary. Please observe the same
behaviors. We have silent halls. You will not be picked up by your teacher, but you will be
expected to leave the classroom at the appropriate SEARCH time and travel down the hall in
a silent line. If I am not in the room, please wait outside the S.E.A.R.C.H. classroom door or the
gym. During this time you will remain silent. Do not enter the classroom if the teacher is not
in the room.
If you need to go to the restroom during non-instructional time, you will need to place the pass
on your desk. Only one boy and one girl will be permitted to leave the class at a time.
Direct Instruction Procedures
When the teacher is giving instructions, no student should be out of his or her seat. Look at the
teacher. Listen carefully. If you have a question about the directions, wait until the teacher
asks for questions.
Audience Procedures
During the year we will have times when you will be presenting to the class. Show your
classmates that you respect them by looking at the presenter, listening carefully, and showing
that you appreciate the presenter’s hard work.
Please follow the same instructions for special visitors. Also, applaud and give thanks for their
time and expertise shared with our Fisher students.
Computers
Computer instruction is an integral part of the SEARCH curriculum. All websites must be
approved by the teacher before students visit them in the classroom. Our computers have a
filter system to monitor inappropriate material, but if you accidentally get on a website that is
not considered appropriate please let the teacher know and exit the site immediately.

Regular Classroom Work
During SEARCH Time
SEARCH students will be exempt from all work missed during the time spent in
SEARCH.
On the day students are in the SEARCH program, home school principal and
teachers shall:
 Avoid presenting major new concepts during SEARCH time
 Post assignments presented in order for SEARCH students to be
aware of content
 Schedule tests around SEARCH time
 Exempt students from tests missed while at SEARCH
 Schedule school-wide events around SEARCH time
 Exempt students from daily practice and drill work missed while
at SEARCH
SEARCH Homework Policy
Homework is used primarily as reinforcement or as a means to complete unfinished
classroom assignments. Students who are involved in special programs are not
required to make up assignments missed while attending alternative classes. If a
SEARCH student is having difficulty in a subject, the teacher should notify the
parent and the SEARCH program.
It is expected that homework assigned by home school teachers be no more for
SEARCH students than for other students. It is also expected that assignments
missed while at SEARCH will not be assigned as homework in addition to or in
place of regular homework assignments. Homework should not be a requirement of
SEARCH attendance.

“Way to Go” awards will be used to monitor student behavior and hard work. If a
student receives a “Way to Go!” award, he or she will also receive a good behavior
point. Points may be spent for something in the treasure box or saved until you have
a total of three. These may be redeemed for a special treat at the end of the year. I
will set a date to reward students who have saved three points.

SEARCH PHOTO/VIDEO/INTERNET CONSENT FORM
Dear SEARCH parents,
Students routinely use the Internet while in SEARCH. We research topics, use interactive

throughout the year. These photographs may be used on my website and/or in
publications created to share with parents, staff and district administration.
Your permission is required before I will allow your student on the Internet and before I
use any photographs. I realize that you probably signed a lengthy permission form
