GATEWAY NEWS – 13th February 2015 Dear Parents/Carers, Welcome back to term 4 at Gateway and we have started this very short term with a fun filled learning week all about Science. The whole school has participated in Science week and the children have enjoyed experimenting and investigating different aspects of Science in their classrooms. Some children have used food including chocolate as part of their experiments whilst others have used exercise and staying healthy as part of their learning. All the children have also taken part in ECO day today and have been thinking about reducing food waste as a way to help save resources and our planet. I was lucky enough to be able to chat to children about their learning during my tea party and written below are some quotes from the children about their learning during Science week. “We investigated to find out if boys have more stamina than girls” – Mascot Year 5 “We have been learning about materials. We got to put materials in a bowl of water to see if it waterproof” – Harmony and Oliver Year 2 “It was fun and we have a good time learning” – Dylan Year 5. Children are invited to bring to school a prop to represent a book character. They will need to be able to give clues to their class mates in order for them to guess their character. At lunchtime, there will be a book swap where the children can exchange an unwanted book for a new challenge. Year sixes will be story telling at break and in the afternoon children will be able to choose which teacher they would like to visit to share a book. Come along and join us in the evening for our first world book day quiz night, it is sure to be very competitive! 6-7pm in the school hall. GSA News - Your PTA Our next event will be serving refreshments and popcorn at the Reading Event being held on 5th March (more details to follow). So far the GSA has raised £2660 since September which is an amazing amount that couldn’t have been achieved without the support from parents, children and staff. Along with previous funds that had been raised we have now been able to give funds to Mrs Mullins so that she is able to replenish books for the school library and classrooms. The GSA is not a closed group, anyone interested in joining the team is very welcome and if you'd like to be involved with events but don't want a full Committee role do let us know - the more the merrier. Our next meeting will be held on Monday 2nd March. Regular updates on forthcoming events, funds raised and what the money has been for will be on the GSA page on the school website.
