GATEWAY NEWS – 1st May 2015
Dear Parents/Carers,
It has been a week of sporting success for Key Stage One. On Wednesday children in Year 2 braved the
elements to compete in the Ultra Olympics at Carterton Community College. They were involved in a range
of sporting activities including running, catching, throwing and working together as a team.
Children in Year 1 have participated in a dance workshop today as well, where they had great fun learning
the dinosaur stomp. We will have to be patient and wait until their sharing assembly to see it – I can
hardly wait!
Children in Year 3 are busy learning all about Spain and have spent this week exploring bull fighting with
the help of their visitor Senor Sumpter  The children now all know about matadors so if you see a Year 3
ask them to tell you.
Year4/5 have been videoing their own role play scene based on Mulan as part of their learning about their
topic of China. They have enjoyed learning how to write using the Chinese alphabet and have contributed
to a fantastic display in the corridor showing all this lovely work.
Year 6 children are busy working hard and preparing for SATs which will be the week beginning 11th May.
We value your support at this time of the year in helping our Year 6 children to feel ready for these very
important tests. Going to bed at an appropriate time, eating healthy food and a calm approach with
positive praise helps tremendously enabling the children to fulfil their potential. We will be running the
Year 6 breakfast club again that week too and the details for this will be confirmed next week.
I would like to end today with a wonderful quote from Sebastian in Foundation Stage who enthusiastically
told me all about his learning today “Look Mrs Mullins – I’ve found lots of aphids here. Do you know what eats aphids? It’s ladybirds.”
It is always great to see the children engaged in their learning 
Have a wonderful bank holiday weekend 
Many thanks for your continued support
Sharon Mullins

GSA News - Your PTA
On Saturday 4th July the GSA will be holding their annual Summer Fete from 12noon till 3pm.
In conjunction with this there will be a non-uniform day on Friday 3rd July and every child who brings in a
£1 donation will receive a prize ticket for the Summer Fete.
There will also be a table top sale and external vendors on the day so if you or anyone you know would be
interested in a table please speak to a member of the GSA.
As there isn’t long to go and an event like this takes a huge amount of effort we are asking for your
help. If you feel you can offer any of your time either on the run up to the event or on the actual day
please come and speak to a member of the GSA.
The GSA is not a closed group, anyone interested in joining the team is very welcome and if you'd like to be
involved with events but don't want a full Committee role do let us know - the more the merrier. Our next
meeting will be held on Monday 11th May.
Regular updates on forthcoming events, funds raised and what the money has been for will be on the GSA
page on the school website.
IMPORTANT NOTICE - Cars on Netheravon Close
Please be mindful of how you drive on the neighbouring roads around our school. We would appreciate
you showing our neighbours consideration and ensure you do not park in front of driveways.
Did you know more injuries occur around school gates due to drivers speeding?
Please watch your speed and protect our children.
Many thanks
