5th Grade Team Meeting Notes: November 27th




We finalized our list of vocabulary terms to include words that were
specific to 5th grade Math and a list of Power Words that are crosscurricular.
We discussed strategies for teaching vocabulary words. The Marzano
Strategies were suggested and Patty has a great book for teaching
vocabulary that she is going to share out with the rest of the grade
level. Also the Granite Schools website is very helpful since it already
has vocabulary cards created for some of the Common Core
Vocabulary.
We spent the reminder of the time discussing the new Math
Curriculum. As a grade level we are going to look at the Essential
Questions that were imported from the Oakland Curriculum and see if
we would like anything to be changed. We took a brief look at the new
options for our Math series, Investigations and Everyday Math. We
will be looking at both series individually to see which one we feel
would be a better fit.
We discussed possibly revisiting our vocabulary list once a new series
is chosen to add words that are specific to that series.
