Willow Beech Welcome back! The Summer term in any school is always fun but for willow Class this year it is going to be particularly busy and hectic with all the outdoor activities we can do now that we have the warmer, sunny weather! Welcome back! I hope you had a good break with your families. Thank you for bringing in milk bottles - we still need a few more. We have a growing collection of milk bottle tops also, please continue to bring these in if you can. Yesterday we had our first session at Quayside Gym in Bridgwater. The children were a little nervous about going out of school on the coach as it was not something they had done before but all of them had a great time! They were split into three groups and had lessons in trampolining, gymnastics and Parkour with their excellent coaches. In maths this week we have been looking at number and place value. This is a key skill. By the end of year one children are expected to be able to count forwards and backwards within 100. I have sent home a worksheet so you can practise at home - there is no need to hand this in, but practise at home is important. Really practise counting backwards from a multiple of 10 - this is much harder for the children to grasp as both the ten and unit/one changes 60, 59, 58... I am sorting through the photos so please do look at the website next week to see what they were up to! As they children went home in their PE kits, please do make sure that these are brought back in to school next week so they can be used again on Thursday. Enjoy the sunshine this weekend! In literacy we have been looking at information books. The children will be creating their own information books throughout this term to give you lots of information about being 'green'. It would be brilliant if you spent some time talking about or researching how we can be 'green'. Have a good weekend. Hazel I hope that you all had a wonderful Easter holiday, welcome back to the summer term. In Hazel Class this week we have been learning to read and write instructions. In doing this, we have started to make a money box using paper mache, following instructions independently (apologies for any mess, it is only flour and water). We have completed another maths assessment this week and we will be continuing to review these and the skills needed. Maple Welcome back everyone, we hope you all enjoyed a good break. This week we have been finding out about how far our food travels during a visit from the 'Fork to Plate' workshop. For homework please could children bring in and empty food wrapper which shows the country of origin for our food miles display. Next week we will be weighing in Maths lessons, so any practice at home with a weighing scales whilst cooking would be of value to the children. General part of the letter please: Please ensure that your child has a PE kit in school, unfortunately we did not have enough spares for everybody yesterday. Lastly, PLEASE bring a drinks bottle! Sycamore Welcome back! I hope you all enjoyed the break. We are settling back into routines, so the following is intended to clarify current routines and expectations: there will be at least one maths activity on mymaths each week. Times tables will continue to be tested on a Friday. I will set one piece of written work each Friday, to be returned by the following Thursday. Spellings are being sent home today, to be tested on Thursdays. Thank you for your support! This week we are welcoming two teachers from Parikrma School in Bangalore, India. Anitha and Bharathi will be visiting all the classes, working alongside the children and sharing something of their school with us all. We hope that this will be and interesting and enriching experience for us all. Oak Good to be Green - Oak class need carrier bags of many different colours for a DT/Art project. Year 6 fund raising continues until the end of April. Once again thank you for all your support. Cross Country competition - letters are out today for the children involved, but this is the last meeting.
