Dear CMS Parent or Guardian:
We are pleased to inform you that Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) has been approved to participate in a new program
available to schools participating in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs called the Community Eligibility
Provision (CEP) for School Year 2014-15. Schools that participate in the CEP are able to provide healthy breakfasts and lunches each
day at no charge for ALL students enrolled in a CEP school during the 2014-15 School Year. If your children attend one of the
following schools, they will be included in this program.

You have school-aged children in your household that attend a CMS school not listed above.
An application can be completed online at www.cms.k12.nc.us . A paper version may also be located at the above
website, obtained from your child’s school or contact the Child Nutrition Department at 980-343-6041. Please do not
hesitate to contact our office if we can assist you further.
The Breakfast Program
Breakfast is offered daily in all schools before the start of the school day at no charge to students. A breakfast consists
of: 1) an entrée made with grain and/or meat/meat alternate, 2) milk, and 3) two servings of fruit or juice (limit of one
juice per meal). All students will be required to take at a minimum one serving of fruit or juice and two additional items
in order to receive the meal at no charge. A breakfast entrée counts as two items. At a minimum, a student must select
an entrée and a fruit or they may select two fruits and milk to have the meal count as a breakfast. The maximum
amount of food a student can select at no charge is one entrée, milk, and two servings of fruit or one serving of juice and
one serving of fruit. If student does not select a complete school breakfast, items selected will be charged ala carte.
The Lunch Program
Lunch is offered daily in all schools. A lunch consists of: 1) an entrée made with grain and/or meat/meat alternate, 2)
milk, 3) vegetable, and 4) fruit. All students will be required to take a minimum one serving of vegetable or fruit and two
additional items in order to receive the meal at no charge. A lunch entrée counts as two items. At a minimum, a
student must select an entrée and a fruit or vegetable or they may select two fruits and/or vegetables and milk to have
the meal count as a lunch. The maximum amount of food a student can select at no charge is one entrée, one milk, two
vegetables, and a fruit. If a student does not select a complete school lunch, items selected will be charged ala carte.
