Post Civil War Years (1865 – 1930’s)
Possible Topics – (Anything not on this list must be approved) It must be a topic that most people know very little about
the true story of.
Look at topics from various sides – Not just the side of the victors!
You will be presenting the topic of your choice to the class. You can work alone or in groups of 2 (in 3 in a few cases
where the topics are very large). The more people in the group, the more that will be expected of the project. This is an
informational presentation, you are presenting the topic in its entirety, which may include looking at different points of
view on the topic depending on which topic you do.
Your job is to teach the class about your topic.
Requirements:
 You must use PowerPoint for your presentation. You should only have an outline and pictures on your slides, it is
meant to enhance your presentation, NOT to give you something to read off of, we can all read, do not copy and
paste information and then read to us.
 If you are working alone, your presentation must be a minimum of 4 minutes, if you are working as a group of 2,
a minimum of 8 minutes and a group of 3 a minimum of 12 minutes. This is an absolute minimum, if you do not
achieve the minimum, your grade will be reduced significantly! If you are trying to earn an A, you must hit the
minimum time and completely explain your topic to the class. You need to print of slides with 3 slides per page.
These will be due the day before presentations start.
 You must create a one half to one page handout (absolutely no more than one page) on your topic to be given out
to the class. I will make copies and distribute them to the class. This should include key information about your
topic.
 You must use at least 6 different sources (4 must be NON INTERNET – Books/articles – not encyclopedias) as
the idea is not to just summarize one web sites point of view on the topic. Make sure you use valid sources to
acquire information. One source must be a book source.
 You must turn in a copy of your PowerPoint slides the day before the presentations start. (Print handout with 3
slides per page)
You grade will be based on the following:
 How well you cover your topic. (150)
o If you cover all of the facts, angles, people, etc.
o You should be presenting the who, what, when, where, and why of each of these topics.
o Tell stories of people who were there. Use first person accounts of the events.
o You should also cover the effects of your topic, as in what effect this event/person had on the United
States.
o You must present numerous pictures/graphics


How well you field questions at the end of your presentation (how well you know your topic), unless of course
you do such an amazing presentation that there are no questions.
Your handout for the class (20)
You will have at least 4 to 5 class periods to work on this in class. The presentations will start approximately 2 weeks
from now (approximately) _____________________
Sources are due on ______________________. (20 points) You must bring books/articles to class.
BE CREATIVE – Your job is to teach the topic. How you do it is up to you.
TURNITIN.COM will be used to check your presentation for plagiarism. You are to put it in YOUR OWN WORDS!
