Chinese Spring Festival is the opportunity to introduce Chinese history, customs,
festivals, paper-cutting and special food to the teachers and students. They are very
interested in them. Through watching PPT about the festival, students got general ideas
about the Spring Festival and became excited and eager to learn words and sentences
related to it. Paper cutting is new and fun to them. Writing thank you cards to teachers
both in English and Chinese is a good way to practice writing Chinese as well as to
express their thanks.

To develop their abilities of Chinese listening, speaking and reading, especially
listening and speaking, paying special attention to the tones

Materials needed
Lanterns, Chinese calendar, pictures, cards, color paper, scissors and markers
Learning procedures
I.Greeting and warming up by singing the Chinese song “Happy New Year ”
II.Show Chinese calendar and tell the students the date of Chinese Spring Festival
III. Play PPT about Chinese New Year
IV.Learn the words related to the festival 春节(Spring Festival), 春联 (couplet), 饺
子 (dumpling),红包(red envelope),年夜饭(Spring Festival Eve Dinner),福
(good luck)羊年(year of sheep)

A. Ask the students to read the words by themselves according to pinyin
