REPORT OF THE TIP – THEATRE INTEGRATES PEOPLE 2014

The workshop

TIP 2014 was held from August 24 th – 31 st in Izola. 36 participants from Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia,

Germany and Greece were working in three workshops led by Gorazd Žilavec, Slovenia, Marko Gvero,

Serbia and Eric Dean Scott, USA.

In first workshop THE COMEDY TONIGHT the participants under the guidance of a famous Slovenian actor Gorazd Žilavec explored unimaginable depths of funny, hilarious, witty and comical. They proved that everything in the theatre can be staged in comical way - from Shakespeare, cooking recipes, up to obituaries. They got to know the basics of comical in classical, improvisational and street theatre.

The topic of the second workshop ACTORS THEATRE – WORLD WITHOUT ACTING (workshop leader

Marko Gvero, Serbia) was creation of a theatre character for the performance. Based on the specifics of the role and mainly the individual participants were researching the character of the role, its background, characteristics. They gradually upgraded the set character: behaviour of the character in different circumstances, relation to the others and to the space. By adding different circumstances they witnessed transformation into a spontaneous and whole theatre character. So based and completed characters were then connected with a tangible theatre text.

Last workshop SHAKESPEARE INTENSIVE – A PHYSICAL THEATER APPROACH TO SHAKESPEARE

(workshop leader: Eric Dean Scott, USA) will focused on physical training, group improvisation and creating compositions from a non-text-based viewpoint. Later the participants incorporated

Shakespeare texts into this mix, were playing with text fragments and built short scenes. The workshop was based in three phases: Physical Training (to free up the physical voice and body impulses of the actor, to explore those impulses’ relationship to the actor’s actions, emotions, intentions, etc),

Improvisation/Games (following Six Viewpoints training: group non-verbal movement improvisations: spatial, tempo, shape, kinesthetic response, story, character), and Composition (picking up from the

Viewpoints/Games training).

The workshops ended with a public presentation in front of/at Cultural House (Theatre) of Izola on the final day.

Every participant got a special edition of theatre play texts, published and donated by Republic of

Slovenia Public Fund for Cultural Activities (AITA/IATA Centre for Slovenia) and a lovely TIP2014 T-shirt.
