OCCASIONAL LECTURING – CLAIMS AND PAYMENT When to use the occasional lecturer claim form - the person is not already employed as an Associate Lecturer on an open ended or fixed term contract - the work is delivering teaching or other academic activity - the work is short duration: o for few hours – and totalling less than 30 in the year o intermittent – never involving work on 4 consecutive weeks - the payment is to be on an hourly rate basis (if a set fee has been agreed then a Specialist Fee claim form should be completed instead) - the person is to be paid via the UWE payroll on a PAYE tax basis (Contact the Faculty Finance Office to raise a purchase order if another payment arrangement has been agreed). Details to enter: Write the appropriate hourly rate onto the form so the person knows what they will be paid (rates as from 01/08/2013): - £39.93 per hour for teaching delivery (includes any preparation/ marking time) - £19.96 per hour for any other academic activity, eg. marking only, interviews. Right to work verification (if the first claim this academic year) When arranging the work with the person advise them that when they attend they must bring original documentation verifying their right to work in the UK: - Passport showing holder is a British citizen or member state of the EU - Long birth certificate plus an official document stating the National Insurance Number When the person attends to do the work - Photocopy the right to work documentation (for passports copy the front cover and photo id page); write on each sheet “I confirm this copy is taken from the original document”, then sign, date and print your name. Arranging payment - Provide the person with the claim form for them to complete, sign and forward to the authorising Head of Department/Associate Head of Department/Budget Holder. Authorising Head of Department/Associate Head signs the form, checks/writes on the appropriate budget cost code and forwards the form to: AL Administration, Human Resources, Wallscourt House, Frenchay Campus.
