Job Description Role: Communications & Marketing Manager (Permanent/Full time) Reporting to: Director of Fundraising & Communications Location: City Hall, London Salary: circa £35k The Mayor’s Fund for London’s exists to give young Londoners the skills and opportunities to get a decent job, escape the threat of poverty and play a full part in London’s future as the greatest city on Earth. Health and Well-being - Helping young Londoners to be engaged, healthy and motivated to learn Skills - Extra support for core skills which employers say are absolutely essential, particularly numeracy and literacy Employment - Supporting employers to create decent and sustainable career prospects for young Londoners Hungry children in 50 London schools start the day fit and ready to learn thanks to our breakfast clubs. Our literacy and numeracy projects are helping 6,500 young Londoners improve their reading and maths. Our Step Up project is helping primary school children successfully transition into secondary schools, while City Pitch is investing in young entrepreneurs who want make a positive difference in their community. The next 12 months will see us find over 1,500 decent jobs and opportunities for young Londoners as part of our Young London Working and Tech City Stars programmes. www.mayorsfundforlondon.org.uk The Charity occupies a unique position in London, with the opportunity to act as a leader for the sector in terms of strategic reach, impact and fundraising. Although an independent and apolitical body, its relationship with the Greater London Authority (GLA), support from the Mayor of London and powerful Board of Trustees offers significant potential to lead the response to helping young Londoners escape poverty. This position, reporting to the Director of Fundraising and Communications, is responsible for managing the communications and marketing channels. You have a track record of proven success in communications and marketing within the 3 rd Sector and/or corporate environment. Your skills in communication (verbal and written) and relationship management are outstanding. You can demonstrate your ability to create intelligent propositions for media and innovative ways to communicate our message effectively. Empathy for the cause is paramount. Responsibilities Core Build the reputation, awareness and perception of the Mayor’s Fund for London Manage communications across internal and external channels Lead on copy-writing and production of marketing materials and key publications, including Impact Report Strategy Support the Director of Fundraising & Communications to develop and deliver communications strategies across the spectrum of communication disciplines including: media and public relations, celebrity management, internal communications, website, marketing, digital and social media and production of materials Process Build strategic relationships with current media partners and develop new ones Create and deliver opportunities for coverage in the relevant media Responsible for delivering press releases and information on time Work closely with the Fundraising and Charitable Activity teams to ensure communications are accurate and relevant Oversee our marketing activities ensuring we develop our marketing collateral appropriately and our website and other mediums are regularly and consistently updated Develop a collection of usable case studies Ensure staff are well briefed on key communications issues Report on and analyse all aspects of communications Liaise , where appropriate, with City Hall PR and Marketing teams Manage and motivate external PR agency General Represent Mayor’s Fund for London at internal and external events/conferences where appropriate Make a positive contribution to Mayor’s Fund for London, working within all the policies and procedures of Mayor’s Fund for London Act as ambassador for Mayor’s Fund for London, protecting and promoting its reputation at all times Person Specification Knowledge Contacts and experience working with the media Ideally experience and knowledge of the public/3rd sector and/or commercial sector Sound digital, social media and website management knowledge and experience Experience of developing marketing materials from concept to fulfilment Skills and Abilities Excellent interpersonal skills, including persuasion, diplomacy, networking and ability to represent the organisation effectively Ability to write compelling press releases and copy for marketing materials Excellent relationship management skills, able to build strong relationships with media and suppliers To be literate and able in IT skills e.g. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, along with Microsoft Outlook Experience Ability to utilise social media and digital platforms effectively Qualities Confident in making personal contacts and approaches with the media Ambitious and proactive to create worthwhile opportunities Self-starting and able to work on own initiative, but also a team worker Methodical, organised and able to work with attention to detail Execute excellence in the quality of outputs Innovative and creative
