Examining how London’s health and wellbeing, healthcare and the health economy can be improved for the benefit of the population. Underpinned by engagement with the public, local government, the NHS, business, the voluntary and community sector, and others. Final report to be produced in Autumn 2014 which describes the future vision for health and wellbeing in London and makes recommendations for the Mayor, NHS and other stakeholders. 4 There have been many London reviews – so we need to reflect on how this Commission can make an impact: Increasingly cities are the innovators of health improvement Use the voice of an independent Commission to engage patients, the public and London When London acts, it has national and international resonance Leverage the Mayor’s position and powers 5 Reflecting what we’ve heard so far, five principles are influencing how the Commission is working: 1. Connect and engage with Londoners 2. Use London’s strengths to address its challenges 3. Understand past successes and failures 4. Take a global view 5. Build a coalition for change 6 A number of issues are emerging from our Call for Evidence and work so far: Health and Wellbeing Integrated care Self-care What can London do to take a step change on health and wellbeing? What can the Commission do at a pan-London level to facilitate integration of health and social care, at scale and pace? How can the Commission support individuals and communities to engage more in their own health and care? Information and Technology What can be done in London to accelerate the Information and Technology agenda? Applying Innovation How can we work to get take-up of the right approaches in public health and healthcare ? 7
