This is a VERY Mixed Media Collage workshop!!!
Mixed media comes along with lots of questions and issues you may not have encountered before. What
materials are compatible? What mediums can you use and when? Why do some papers wrinkle and others
don’t? How do you adhere very thick materials or very thin papers? How can I draw over the slick surface of
acrylic? These questions and many more will be answered. You will create your own custom papers by
masking off areas then toning them in colors of your choice. Learn about composition. Learn how to remove
color or color intensity. Learn how to include water-soluble images safely and how to hide paper edges. Learn
how to add “tooth” and draw on top of acrylics. You will be working on multiple small substrates. This will
enable you to try many processes and complete several pieces.
SUPPLY LIST:
What I will bring:
-Collage papers to “tone”
-Fluid paint, mediums and gels (for class use) *You can purchase additional items from Venus Studios Art Supply for “take home”.
-Metallic foil and adhesive (for class use)
-140# watercolor paper to use as collaging substrates
-Handouts
-Nitrile gloves
What you need to bring:
-A large package of baby wipes (that’s correct!)
-Old brush for gluing, 1” –ish
-2 small soft painting brushes
-If desired, original drawings or documents (for collaging)
-Roll of paper towels
-Favorite collage papers you love (optional)
-Pen/Pencil and paper for taking notes
