Suggested Items for Supplies
The following are suggestions ONLY:
You would never use them all!!!!
For first day of class, I suggest you bring only paper, your acrylics or WColors or inks and some old
brushes. You may bring any of the suggested items if you already have a particular project in mind.
I will furnish gel medium, glue, mats for viewing art works, etc.

Papers for Supports:
For collage, the heavier the support, the better. 300# W/C paper is the best and
won't buckle as much. I also use BFK Rives 140-300#. Lighter sometimes requires applying either gel
medium or water to the back to keep flat, but I like it a lot. I suggest full sheets (22x30) and then dividing
if you want to make a smaller art piece. You may also use a water color block or a mixed media pad.
Watercolors, Acrylics or Inks: Any colors that you usually use for your acrylic or W/C painting palette.
A tube of white gouache might be useful to make opaque colors. India Ink is always useful for dark
color. I use acrylic and W/C inks a lot for my backgrounds.
Glue or Adhesive: Acrylic Matte Gel Medium is the best choice. If you have other, it's OK too.
Brushes: Your regular acrylic brushes. Nothing good-hog bristle is the best as it won't wear out as easy.
Don't use your expensive W/C brushes for acrylics. Maybe a 1/2" and 1" and a fine liner for detail.
Pens and Pencils: Best are Sanford Sharpies in Ultra fine to Fine Points. Micron are good but expensive.
A variety in size always adds interest to your art work. You can also experiment with twigs, splinters and
feathers using your inks or acrylics. A Generals or Graphite pencil is best for drawing. Usually comes in
a package with a nice sharpener and eraser too.
Mats: Mats are always good to view your artwork. A 10.5x14 is good for a quarter sheet piece. Smaller
for lesser sizes, bigger for larger. Whites, grays or neutrals are all good.
Rice papers:
Various textures and shades. These are great for both background and emphasis.
Tissue Paper:
Both white and colors can be used. Kroger bags are good too for darker collage areas.
Other stuff:
Stamps. A plastic container or two for water, gesso, etc.. My favorite is a large
Maxwell House or Folgers Coffee container with the handle and lid. Cardboard to fit your art work.
Scissors. Pencils. Magazines, lace or fabric. Photos, Xerox copies, maps, postage stamps, written text,
or old art works. Tissue paper or Japanese papers. Tracing paper or graphite paper. Copies for transfers.
Found Objects, etc.
