May 11, 2015

Call to Order – Janet Comerford called the meeting to order at 7:08 pm and initiated the flag salute.
Secretary’s Report – Janet Comerford moved to approve the April meeting minutes and it was seconded
by Therese Matthews.
Treasurer’s Report –Janet Comerford moved to approve the April treasurer’s report and Michele Baran
seconded the motion.
OLD BUSINESS
Spring Sports Reports:
Softball – No report received
Baseball – Lori McHugh
Varsity record is 8-12
Won the 1st round of the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex beating Vernon 1-0.
Lost the 2nd round to Pope John who is the number 1 seed in Sussex County and they are in the county
finals. Score was 1-0.
On Saturday, 5/9 varsity played at Waterfront Park against Delran and lost 2-1.
Varsity senior night is this Friday at the Ridge at 7:00 p.m. It is also the last Joey night and we are
including Joey's dad, Joe in senior night. Will be honoring seniors: Frank McHugh, Michael Pilone,
Derin Merritt, Travis Sharffenberger and Logan Brown.
Next week the team goes into sectionals.
JV record is 9-3
Freshman record is 5-5
Girls Lacrosse – Terri Harabedian
Varsity record is 11-6
Since last report had wins over Watchung Hills 16-9, Hopewell Valley 13-2, Somerville 13-9, Pennington
22-10, P’burg 17-7, Voorhees 14-10, Immaculata 24-8, and Pope John 14-7.
Losses to Montgomery 13-11 and Hillsborough 14-13.
Our Senior night was April 30th against Phillipsburg and honored six seniors – Caroline Vath, Alyssa
Orrico, Brianna Skripko, Taryn Cook-Grisewood, Darby DeSapio and Kayla Vackner.
Brianna Skripko scored her 100th career goal during the Pope John game on Friday, May 8th.
Playing the third round of the HWS tournament May 11th at 4:00 p.m. against Sparta.
First round of states tentatively scheduled for Thursday at Barnegat.
Boys Lacrosse – Therese Matthews
The Boys Lacrosse Program is nearing the end of their regular season having achieved many program and
individual player milestones in the past month. The Varsity Team record of 12 - 6 is the first in the
program's history to have achieved 12 wins in a season. The Team was 4th seed in the Hunterdon/Warren/
Sussex Tournament and will be in the semi-final match against Hunterdon Central tonight after defeating
Voorhees on Friday night by a score of 4 - 2. Again, this is the first time in the program's history to make
the semi-final game in this tri-county tournament. The JV record is equally impressive at 11 wins and 7
losses and Freshman had a strong record as well, ending their season on May 5 with a record of 4 wins
and 6 losses. Individual Player achievements during the month include Senior Paul Beljan named
Hunterdon County Democrat Athlete of the Week on April 22 and Junior Joe Donnelly achieving his
100th career point in the game against West Windsor -Plainsboro on April 26. Senior Night was also held
on April 24 during which 14 senior players and their parents were honored at the game against Bernards
High School.
The Boys Lacrosse Programs continues to work closely with the DelVal Chargers Junior Lacrosse
Program. On Friday April 17, the coaching staff and players paid it forward by running coaching and
skills clinics for the Chargers Jr. Lacrosse Program players and coaches. The event was held at Alexandria
Field. Many of the Chargers players were also at our Senior Night and led the Varsity Players onto the
field with an arch of lacrosse sticks. The High School Players also volunteered their time on April 24 and
25 assisting in activities associated with the Jr. Lacrosse Ice Bowl Tournament held at Alexandria Field.
Whether it was parking cars, cooking burgers or cleaning the fields after the tournament, all of the Boys
helped out in some way at this event.
Golf – No report received
Girls Track – Mary Ann Blanke
Del Val won over Somerville (98 – 41) on April 15th.
We lost to Warren Hills (82 – 57) on April 22.
Last dual meet of the season was April 28th against undefeated Voorhees whom Del Val lost to 86 – 53.
Mr. Petty said that the girls gave a very good account of themselves, having 30 personal best efforts on
the day.
Saturday (April 25th) the girls competed at the JFK Invitationals and we placed 5th of 17 teams. Coach
Petty said that he thought Del Val did a really nice job overall.
Skyland Conference was last Tuesday (May 5th) at Hillsborough High School. According to nj.com,
Delaware Valley Girls came in 11th out of 18 teams.
Hunterdon Warren Sussex Tournament Meet was this past Saturday (May 9th) at Wallkill Valley High
School. According to nj.com, Delaware Valley Girls came in 7th out of 16 teams.
Sectionals are scheduled for May 22 – 23.
Groups are scheduled for May 29 – 30.
Girls and Boys Track will be having their Senior Recognition Dinner on Wednesday, June 3.
Boys Track – Paul Sterbenz
1. The team participated in four dual meets. The team’s record in those dual meets was 1-3.
2. The team participated in two novice meets at Hunterdon Central High School.
3. The team participated in the inaugural Mustang Invitational Track meet at JFK High School in Iselin,
NJ on 4/25/15.
4. The team participated in the Skyland Conference Championships at Hillsborough High School on
5/5/15.
5. The team participated in the Hunterdon/ Warren/ Sussex Championships at Wallkill Valley High
School on 5/9/15.
The team does not have any further dual meets scheduled at this time. The team is scheduled to participate
in an invitational at Ridge High School on 5/16/15.
The team’s end of year dinner where the graduating seniors will be recognized will be held on
Wednesday, June 3rd in the school cafeteria (NOTE: This will be a joint dinner with the Girls Team). The
Boys team has ten graduating seniors. The Girls team has six graduating seniors.
Field Enhancement Project – The bricks have arrived and are in good condition and will be installed
shortly based on the weather cooperating.
Del Val Spirit Wear
Pending Orders: Cinch bags for the 8th grade graduates from Alexandria, Milford, Holland & Kingwood,
and Senior blankets will be delivered prior to Memorial Day weekend. Varsity jackets are expected in
June. 8th grade honor students shirts (10 in total – 2 from each district.)
Orders Delivered: Used stock items to fulfill all requests for staff with milestones in service (5, 10, 15
years, etc.)
National Staff Appreciation Week
Teachers were recognized on Tuesday, May 5th. All Sports Booster Club contributed fruit platters and
cookies for the event.
NEW BUSINESS:
Scholarship Selection Process
Marlene Blankinship, Michele Baran, Therese Matthews and Janet Comerford were presented with
scholarship candidates. Scholarship recipients were selected based on meeting criteria set forth in the All
Sports Booster Club’s bylaws. Janet Comerford will submit recipient’s names to Mr. Woodland and will
be present to give award at the ceremony on June 2nd at 6:30 p.m.
Varsity Awards
Spring Varsity Awards, Senior Blankets, and Varsity Jackets will be presented on Thursday, May 28th at
6:30 p.m. followed by Senior Awards Night on June 2nd at 6:30 p.m.
Officer Nominations
Nominations for the 2015-2016 officers are Janet Comerford – President, Therese Matthews – Vice
President, Lisa Amabile – Treasurer, Lori McHugh – Corresponding Secretary, and Marlene Blankinship
– Recording Secretary. Voting will take at the next meeting.
Summer Mailing
The club will again include their paperwork in the summer mailing that Del Val sends out in July
A motion was made by Janet Comerford to adjourn the meeting at 7:45 p.m.; Lori McHugh seconded the
motion. The next meeting will be held on Monday, June 8th at 7:00 p.m. in room C100.
