MANAGING A CREATIVE BUSINESS
What is the purpose of this course?
The Pearson BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Management (QCF) is designed to provide learners with practiced
and specialist underpinning occupational knowledge that is required by businesses to carry out defined
management activities, within an operational area of responsibility including performance management,
people development and operational planning.
What does the qualification cover?
A series of study units taken from the Pearson BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Management Principles. You
will find out about:

Principles of Leadership and Management Styles
Principles of Managing Performance
Understanding Personal and Professional Development
Understanding how to Develop and Maintain Productive Working Relationships in Business
Environments
You will study both the theory and practice for a range of management roles.
These units are designed for current, new or aspiring managers. It is also useful for those who run their
own business.
It gives learners the opportunity to:


Develop the background knowledge and understanding of the personal and interpersonal skills
required for an effective manager.
Develop the essential generic background knowledge and understanding for a range of
management roles which includes the running of your own business if self-employed.

Principles of leadership and management styles and theories
 Understand leadership and management styles and theories
 Understand the role, functions and responsibilities of management
 Understand the principles of effective decision making
Principles of Managing Performance
 Understand the principles of managing business performance
 Understand the principles of managing people performance

Understand employment regulations and contracts
Understand how to create a working environment that is fair, supportive and encourages learning
and development
Understanding Personal and Professional Development
 Understand the factors which impact on personal and professional development
 Be able to plan for personal and professional development
 Understand how to monitor and review a development plan
Understanding How to Develop and Maintain Productive Working Relationships in Business Environments
 Understand the requirements for working with others effectively in business environments
 Understand how to deal with conflict of interest and disagreements when working iwth others in
business environments.
How will your work be assessed?
Assessment is via a centre-devised assignment (internal assessment)
What are the entry requirements?
Learners do not need any prior qualifications, knowledge or experience before starting the qualification.
However, they may be seeking work within the business and professional management and leadership
sector, or they may already be employed or self-employed in a cross-sector role or functions that involve
defined management activities within an operational area of responsibility.

Duration
The course commences on Thursday 26 February and finishes on 21 May 2015, and runs for 14 weeks.
The times of the course are 1.00 pm to 4.15 pm.
FREE Places available
This series of study units is fully funded by the Skills Funding Agency and European Social Fund. The
funding does not allow completion of a full Level 3 qualification, however there is the opportunity to
complete the final unit for a fee.

This qualification is recognised by the Chartered Management Institute, the only chartered professional
body in the UK dedicated to promoting the highest standards in management and leadership excellence.
Achievement of this qualification supports the learner’s application to become a member of the Institute.
