INSUL-TUBE® SOLAR NT Nanotechnology for solar applications Using the power of the sun to heat our water and our homes – what a promising vision for tomorrow’s energy! So it’s no wonder that more and more businesses and private individuals are turning that dream of a sustainable power plant on their rooftops into reality. But however efficiently the sun blazes down on our roofs, the fine distribution system within the building which directly connects the solar facility to the heat storage unit is equally important. There are all sorts of suitable pre-insulated tubing, but it is the details that count: NMC’s insulation uses innovative INSUL-TUBE® SOLAR NT nanotechnology. The stainless steel corrugated tube is clad in a 5 mm thick polyester fleece treated with nano aerogel. Compared to traditional insulation materials, this gel offers optimum insulation properties in the smallest space. Instead of the usual 20 mm thick layer of insulation, INSUL-TUBE® SOLAR NT has just 5 mm – and it works better! This makes it ideal for space-saving installation and at the same time, it saves on valuable raw materials. Solar energy and nanotechnology – a powerful combination for a sustainable energy future. What is nano aerogel? Aerogel is a synthetically manufactured amorphous silica gel which is applied to a flexible fleece substrate. The basic ingredient in the gel is amorphous silicic acid (silica). Thanks to a special manufacturing process, a watery gel is produced, which is then dried under special conditions. ‘Nano’ stands for tiny pores and structures with a diameter of a few nanometres (1 nm = 1 millionth of a mm). This highly porous structure gives the aerogel good insulating properties, because the fine material walls and the high air content drastically reduce thermal conductivity. INSUL-TUBE® SOLAR NT Product properties Product benefits: Temperature-resistant UV resistant Protection against pecking Weather-resistant Temperature sensor cable built into the protective sheath Stainless steel dual corrugated tube (316 L) Polyester fleece (5 mm): water-shedding, compact, flexible, light, resistant to pressure PVC coat with fibre inlay: black, compact, flexible, resistant to pressure and heat.
