Cluster of Higher Learning – ICT PD Conference Call – Wednesday 23rd June 2010 8.00am 8.20am 8.30am Video: Derek Wenmoth: 2010 Ten Trends: Cyber citizenship http://edtalks.org/play.php?vid=374 Your thoughts? I thought this was a straight forward easy to understand overview of what it means to be a cyber-safe, cyber citizen. Good to use with BOT and parents. Also on Cyber safety: The Grid - http://www.thegrid.org.nz/ This looks really good and I can see it will be useful when reviewing our internet safety and e-learning agreements. Would also be a good tool to use with the video below at our Expo – maybe even a 30min session for everyone? Digital Citizenship - Who Will You Be? http://www.youtube.com/user/RozzyBearHere#p/a/u/0/MX0aycyAAJA This could be a good video to share with your kids Lead in to a discussion on being a good digital citizen – I think this is a great idea – maybe have three sessions over the expo Junior/Middle/Senior? Yes everyone keen to do this. I have contacted Netsafe and asked them if it’s possible to send out a representative to our expo day, if not if they could join via online conference or at least recommend the key resources for getting the important messages across. We will sort through all the resources and find the most user friendly for students and parents – I will work on this. Another Suzi Vesper awesome site: Learning about web 2.0 http://learningweb2.wikispaces.com/ Check out the Planning for Web 2 page http://learningweb2.wikispaces.com/Important+considerations Lets have are “What are we doing?” discussion about the topic on this page. Tiniroto: The teachers are the account holders eg. Voicethread, school blog, wikis, Only Y7-8s have a gmail account so I can use gdocs with them. WSS: Julie printed off netsafe stuff for her breakout – 2 dimensions protocols in place for why use a blog, and fun teaching and learning side. This website had heaps of choice information. We were using lots of top10 web2 tools – try link to planning – lots of immediate Reflective Blogs: Make a posting at this google doc to let us know what has been happening, then cut and paste into your reflective blog. http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dwch6hk_22gj82hnft 8.35am Living Heritage – Update and Launch Leann Rattray is my liaison and has been extremely helpful at organizing this at the Museum end. The concourse and café will be completely clearer out for us. She is contacting media (East Coast TV, Maori TV and her contact at the Gisborne Herald). Need sponsorship for nibbles/drinks – have contacted Awapuni Computers – any other ideas? We are allowed to take our own food and drinks (too expensive to have it catered by the Café), Leann and I will heat up the savories and prepare this in the afternoon. Aim to have all pages uploaded by end of week Sunday at latest. LH will upload Monday so we can iron out any glitches. Do you have permission under control? Students Resources/reference acknowledgements Living Heritage – will need to fax this ASAP when all pages uploaded. All currently having issues uploading photos – will contact Eris today and try to sort that out as its very time consuming and frustrating at the moment! Each school needs to create a display in poster format to be stuck up on the wall (blue tacked) – we are using a roll of brown paper for ours. This might include the process, photos, actual final reports etc, good idea to have some artifacts eg. Centenary info, old photos etc….for parents and guests to browse through after the official part of the evening… We are aiming to get to the Museum as soon as possible after school on Wednesday. 8.40am e-Learning Made Easy Get all people registered for their breakouts! Need to get as many people as possible there on Friday afternoon . Collaboration projects – Anything to report?? If no-one has any problems with it I am going to ask Di to plan and monitor e-buddy programmes for Term3 = there will be a focus on oral language in preparation for Speeches. I will allocate one teacher release day to do this for the term. Science Fair is also in Term 3 – might be an opportunity for collaboration there. Tiniroto Expo – Updates Di has reviewed all the survey feedback and two very strong indications from students 1. Want to focus on one major thing for the day and learn it properly (80%) 2. Want to be with e-buddy and a teacher (60%) 3. Majority want to finish with a game or just hang out together. Teachers Focus on cyber safety Di and Rebecca will work on this and let you know the plan during the holidays (not any time before then!!) 8.45am 8.55am Any other issues? Facilitator’s Position I agree with Ivan’s recommendation we keep the facilitator in house for rest of year and make a decision at the end of the year. We can look at the position in terms of teacher release days and actually use the time to actually focus on e-learning. Each lead teacher responsible for hosting at least one phone hui and if I do every second one as PD? Will get a timetable together for Term 2. Di will be responsible for e-buddy literacy programme – planning and implementation for Term 3 – focus on speeches so written and oral language. Expectation that e-buddies email at least once per week. Really step up and get high quality learning related communication. This is our most successful initiative and MUST BE a priority for all schools. Phone Hui E-buddy programme is a MAJOR focus – Di to join hui and update everyone regularly.
