1. Course Description
The course presents a post-basic level learning of Malay language through enhanced knowledge of
grammar and expanded vocabulary to enable students to understand and communicate more confidently
in Malay.
2. Learning Objectives
The course, which is a progression from Malay Language Level 1, aims primarily to provide students
with an enhanced knowledge of Malay (spoken and written) at the post-basic level in order to attain a
functional competency in the language for formal and practical communication. This post-basic level
course also seeks to enable students to acquire a better grasp of Malay grammar and widen their
repository of Malay vocabulary.
3. Learning Outcome
Upon completing the course, students should be able to:
 Have an enhanced knowledge of Malay at the post-basic level in terms of grammar and the four skills
of listening, reading, speaking and writing;
 Express ideas verbally;
 Express ideas through written communication
 Understand and respond to questions and ideas accordingly.
4. Course Content
 Expanded list of essential vocabulary;
 Malay grammar comprising use of affixes, sentence construction, parts of speech and numeral
classifiers;
 Synonyms and antonyms
 Reading and comprehension skills
 Communicating and expressing ideas
5. Student Assessment
Students will be assessed based on continual assessment administered throughout the course. The
continual assessment is made up of five components which comprise of grammar, comprehension,
composition, oral and participation.
