INTERMEDIATE 2 (30 CREDITS) / FLx2330 Component In-Class Test (in scheduled class time, Term 1 Week 12) One test of 1 hour 30 minutes. % of Total 20% Part 1: Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary & Grammar Reading Comprehension (20 marks): with questions & answers in target language. European languages: Approx. 300-450 word text(s). Mandarin Chinese: 400-500 character text(s). Japanese: approx. 500-600 character text(s). Vocabulary & Grammar questions (30 marks). Part 2: Writing (50 marks) One guided writing task out of a choice of 2/3 European languages: 250 words Japanese: 400-450 characters, including 15 Kanji. Mandarin Chinese: 300-350 characters. In-Class Listening Test (Term 2 Week 7) 15% Listening Comprehension questions based on 3/4 recordings played twice (45 minutes) Oral Test (Term 2 Week 11) 25% Response to Text and Conversation, 8-9 mins. per student There are two parts to the test: Part 1: Response to Text 3-4 situations or topics from the module selected by tutor and made available to students via ELE one week in advance in Term 2 Week 10 (Week 9 if 2 weeks required to deliver orals). Tutor to select input texts & visuals for each topic (this could be 2 short texts or one longer one) and given to student at random 20 minutes before coming in to room. Students given prompts to develop the topic in Part 1. Part 2: Conversation Tutor-led conversation with each candidate. Written Examination (organised centrally by the Exams Office in 40% Term 3) 1 hour 30 minutes examination. As in the In-class Tests, the exam consists of two parts, only slightly longer and proportionally more complex: Part 1: Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary & Grammar (50 marks) Reading Comprehension (20 marks) with questions & answers in target language European languages: Approx. 300-550 word text(s). Japanese: Approx. 600-700 character text(s). Mandarin Chinese: Approx. 500-600 character text(s) Vocabulary & Grammar questions (30 marks). Part 2: Writing (50 marks) One guided writing task out of a choice of 2/3 European languages: 300 words Japanese: 450-500 characters, including 20 Kanji. Mandarin Chinese: 350-400 characters.
