Continental Strengthens Exhaust Aftertreatment
Activities for Commercial Vehicles in China
 To better serve China commercial vehicle market, Continental invests new production
line for the production of Air-Assisted Urea Dosing System Generation I (UDA1) in Wuhu.
 The modularized system makes is easy to integrate and thus reduce development time
and cost.
 The production line has a yearly capacity of more than 100,000 parts.
Shanghai/Wuhu, Aug 6, 2015. The leading global automotive supplier Continental celebrated in
its Wuhu plant today for the start of production of UDA1 in China, which allows the company to
serve the local commercial vehicle after-treatment market in a shorter lead time and less risky
logistic conditions. Dr. Markus Distelhoff, Global Head of Continental Fuel and Exhaust
Management Business Unit, said at the ceremony, “The aftertreatment market is a promising
market worldwide, whereas we see an even stronger market demand in China. As a global leading
aftertreatment system supplier, introducing our key products and technologies to China at the first
instance is one of Continental’s major strategies in China, and commitment to the market.” The
new production line has a yearly capacity of more than 100,000 parts.
Since the successful acquisition of Emitec in August 2014, Continental has been working on the
localization of products to China. In less than one year, a brand new production line has been set
up for a mass production of UDA1. “The advantages brought by this acquisition – providing
systematic, integrative solutions – are now actualized in China market.” said Yanfei Cao, Head of
Fuel & Exhaust Management China.
Since 2006, the Air-Assisted Urea Dosing System has been applied to trucks, buses, and other
non-road mobile machinery, as a stable after-treatment solution, meeting the most rigour emission
regulations in different markets. With the high-precision dosing pump, and the assistance of
pressurized air, the superior atomization performance makes the droplet smaller than 30 µm, fitting
well for the urban road situation. Meanwhile, the system can be easily integrated into Diesel
Control Units. Dosing rate is therefore intelligently calculated by the pump using engine information
from the host Engine Control Management as well as the heating controlling and fault diagnosis
function. The modularized system makes an integration easy for the customers, and thus reduce
the development time and cost.
