Science Rap
This assignment is worth 45 pts. You will work in pairs or by yourself. It is due on Friday
November 21.
The first part of the assignment is to define and explain the relationship to oceans of all the
vocabulary words from Chapter 14.1 and 14.2 (18 pts).
These include: Oceanography, sonar, submersible, satellite, continental margin,
continental shelf, continental slope, continental rise, ocean basin floor, abyssal plains,
trenches, subduction zones, seamounts, guyots, mid-ocean ridges, seafloor spreading,
turbidity currents, and submarine canyon.
You may choose to write a song, poem, or rap. (27pts)
It must contain at least 5 vocabulary words. (5pts)
It must rhyme. (5pts)
It must be at least 15 lines long. (5pts)
A typed hard or digital copy must be turned in on Friday. (2pts)
It must teach the listeners about oceanography and the terms you use. You cannot use
random rhymes with the vocabulary words to fulfill the assignment. An example of an
unacceptable rhyme would be, “I like to eat fries, with my continental rise.” (10pts)
Extra credit will be given to those who perform it in front of the class on Friday. (10 pts)
If you perform it in front of another Earth Science class I will replace a test score.
