Task: Objective: Students will travel back in time to learn about Ancient Egyptian people and their culture, then take the data they have learned and put them in a folder as there journals. 1) Students will have to find where Egypt is located on a map. 2) Once you find Egypt then you must find where the ancient people lived and why they lived there. 3) The Ancient Egyptians lived in a society that worshipped many gods and goddesses, at this point students should pick a god or goddess of their choice and learn and write about what and why the Ancient Egyptians worshiped them. 4) Students will learn about the Ancient Egyptian pyramids and why they were built. 5) Then students will learn about the Ancient Egyptian Mummification processes. 6) Students will then make something to remember their journey to Ancient Egypt. Process: To find Egypt you must look on the Northern part of the country Africa near the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea. Students will have to print their own African country to color the map and then make Egypt a bright red color then put the country’s name and the continents name then placed in the folder as the first page of the students journal. Process 2: After finding Egypt in Africa then you need to out the map of just Egypt and color, draw and name the Nile River, name the country, name the two Seas, and pick 4 cities and put the name on the map as well. After this go to http://www.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk/Homework/egypt/nile.htm and find out why the Ancient Egyptians chose to live near the Nile River then write this under the map. Place the map inside your folder as the second page of the students journal. Process 3: The Ancient Egyptian worshiped many gods and goddesses that represented many things about their culture. You will draw a picture of the god or goddesses and then write who, what and why the Ancient Egyptians worshiped them. There are some websites that you can choose and do research about the god or goddess. First website http://www.ancientegypt.co.uk/gods/explore/main.html Second website http://www.neferchichi.com/godsinfo.html After your drawing and information is done put it in your folder as page three of the journal. Process 4: Students will learn about the Ancient Egyptian pyramids. First, students will print a worksheet make by the teacher and fill out the questions that are related to these two websites. Second, go to this website http://www.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk/Homework/egypt/pyramids.htm and answer the first 3 questions. Finally, go on a tomb adventure game on this website, while playing fill out the rest of the worksheet http://www.nms.ac.uk/kids/games_and_adventures/egyptian_tomb_adventure.aspx Worksheet on pg. 4 and place the worksheet in your folder as page four of the journal. Process 5: The pyramids were built as a place for the dead kings of Ancient Egypt and the mummies lied in the secret rooms of the pyramids with all of their treasures. The Ancient Egyptians mummified their dead and the students will learn how and why they do this. Pick three questions about mummies from this website http://www.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk/Homework/egypt/mummies then write the question and answers on a page for you journal. Then play this fun mummy game http://www.schoolsliaison.org.uk/kids/egyptmummy.htm while playing the game write down on the same paper with the question all the artifacts names that you clicked on in the game, there are nine. This page will go in the folder as page 5 in your journal. Process 6: Students will make their own mummies to finish off their adventures in Ancient Egypt. The mummy will be molded out of clay by each student, either an animal or person. After the clay has dried fully each student will cut out rectangles of news paper while I will make the paper Mache mixture. The clay mummies will be wrapped in news papers dipped in paper Mache mixture. After it has dried the students will paint their mummies in any way they like.
