Learning Opportunities
We are a team based at the NUH City
Campus where we treat elective lower limb
inpatients on wards (Lister 1 and Edward 2,
Harvey 1, surgical short stay unit and day
surgery)
Common conditions we see are primary and
revision joint replacements. Arthroscopic
surgery of the knee and ankle. Foot and
ankle surgery. Knee ligament
reconstructions take place regularly on the
unit.
Work within MDT. Observe
operations/theatre process. Attend pre-op
clinics and review patients prior to surgery.
Learn discharge planning including role of
MDT (i.e. occupational therapy). Learn time
management skills in ward with busy turn
over.
Increase knowledge of common arthritic
conditions and their management. Increase
knowledge of the management of acute and
acute on chronic MSK disorders. Learn
surgical techniques and their effect on the
MSK system. Practice handling and
examination of the lower limb
Attend follow up clinics and outpatient
appointments to see long term effects of
surgery.
