BOILERPLATE FOR PROPOSAL TO ADD TA SUPPORT TO AN ADJUNCT LED COURSE
December 2011
In order to increase meaningful learning and engagement in the classroom, please let this serve as a
request for a teaching assistant for Adolescent Development, HDFS 313 Winter 2012.
Proposed TA, xxxxxxxxxx would carry out some of the following responsibilities (depending on time
constraints and class priorities) in order to reach particular learning goals:
1.Attend some of the weekly 3-hour class lectures and discussions.
Students can develop a relationship with Xxxx.
In addition to reviewing the textbook, Xxxx will be familiar with the class material so she can
better serve the students.
Xxxxxx will model active class participation and respect for others.
2. Help facilitate small group discussion in class.
An additional facilitator will create more opportunities for students to break into supervised
smaller, interactive groups with the goal of more in-depth discussion.
3. Assist in grading the three 2-page “Adolescent Issues in Film” papers.
With TA support the instructor can offer more in-depth writing assignments that are timeintensive to grade.
4. Meet with the “Contemporary Adolescent Issues” groups to provide constructive feedback regarding
the group presentation.
Students get the opportunity to receive feedback and make improvements to their group
presentations before presenting to the class.
5. Offer editing support for the group presentation papers.
Students will learn more about writing style and technique.
6. Prepare and perform a short lecture or class activity regarding an adolescent issue of Xxxx’s choice.
Students would learn about an additional adolescent issue.
7. Communicate and collaborate with the instructor on a weekly basis.
Build a good relationship between TA and instructor where there is clear communication and
interactive, reciprocal feedback. Xxxx will have the opportunity to extend her thinking about
teaching, group interaction, and adolescence. Collaboration and feedback improves quality of
teaching.
