KINGSFORD SMITH DRIVE UPGRADE
February 2014
Reference design
The map faces north, showing the reference design for the Kingsford Smith Drive upgrade between
Breakfast Creek Road and Theodore Street. The upgrade will see the road widened from four to six lanes
between Cooksley Street at Hamilton and Theodore Street at Eagle Farm. It will also include improvement
works between Breakfast Creek Road at Albion and Cooksley Street.
The reference design includes:
 three through traffic lanes in each direction
 continuous footpaths on both sides of the road with improved footpath widths
 1.8 metre on-road cycle lanes between Theodore Street and Racecourse Road
 a two-way off-road cycle path on the river side of Kingsford Smith Drive between Racecourse Road
and Breakfast Creek, and a river-side pedestrian path
 consolidation of bus stops to allow almost all stops to be indented out of through traffic lanes.
The map shows from west to east, between Breakfast Creek Road and Theodore Street:
 the removal of the right turn into Amy Street from Kingsford Smith Drive at the Breakfast Creek Road
intersection
 Hunt Street to be left in only from Kingsford Smith Drive.
 new on street-parking at Yulestar Street
 traffic signals to remain at the Cooksley Street and Kingsford Smith Drive intersection
 the pedestrian crossing at Crescent Road across Kingsford Smith Drive to remain
 the pedestrian crossing at Riverview Terrace across Kingsford Smith Drive to be removed
 a new park to be constructed at Bretts Wharf, opposite Racecourse Road
 vehicle entry to Bretts Wharf removed from the Racecourse Road intersection
 relocated Bretts Wharf CityCat terminal, opposite Racecourse Road
 Harbour Road to be left in, left out and right in only
 future signalised intersection to be delivered as part of Hamilton Northshore planning
 Curtin Avenue West to be closed at Remora Road
 College Street to be left in and left out only
 existing U-turn to be removed at Alison Street and new traffic signals installed for right turn into
Alison Street.
The map also shows two cross section drawings of the Kingsford Smith Drive upgrade, including:
 opposite Crescent Road - the drawing shows three lanes in each direction on Kingsford Smith Drive,
with the road widened approximately 15 metres out onto the river. Indented bus bays also feature on each
side of the road.
 opposite Hillside Crescent - the drawing shows three lanes in each direction on Kingsford Smith
Drive, with the road widened approximately 10 metres out onto the river.
