War Memorial Project for Prince George County
The Prince George Regional Heritage Center is announcing a project to develop a detailed
record of the Prince George County residents that perished while serving their country. The
scope of this project includes identifying individuals that have died during conflicts and creating
a registry that includes their life before entering military service (if possible), service branch,
locations of service and interment location. The monuments at the Prince George County
Regional Heritage Center list 46 individuals from World War I, World War II, Korea and Vietnam.
Not including the Civil War, it is believed that there are other fatalities from these and other
conflicts that are not listed on the monuments, bringing the estimated deceased total to at
least 74. In addition to the registry, the information developed by this project will be used
during annual Memorial Day Observances at the Center.
Your Help is Needed
A number of surviving relatives have already been contacted. There are many more individuals
to research and attempt to find their living family members. We need volunteers to team with
us on this project: to research military records, cemetery records, and historical publications
etc. for each individual; to collect and organize information and photographs in order to create
a memorial tribute for each person; to make direct contact with remaining family members and
friends of the deceased and obtain family agreement, and, if possible, participation, for
including their deceased veterans in the registry.
Please contact the Center if you are willing to help with this project. The list of 74 individuals
identified so far is on the following pages. Even if you do not wish to do research but can help
put us in contact with relatives of the deceased, this information will be helpful as well.
