Science II Promotional Piece (draft JE 1-26-15) Text for Project Overview Today’s Technology for Tomorrow’s Scientists Central is Science Too/II Well-known for excellent Education, Business, Professional, and Performing Arts programs, Central has a new story to tell. Central is a Science school too! And we are building Science II to meet the demands of Washington state students who want to contribute to the future of science in America. The facts about the growth of Science at Central: The number of science majors in biology, chemistry, physics, and geology has more than doubled in the past 10 years CWU science faculty are nationally-recognized researchers and award-winning teachers External funding for scientific research at CWU has increased by 33% over the past five years Thirty-percent of our undergraduate science majors conduct hands-on mentored research while at CWU Science I opened in 1998 and Dean Hall renovations were completed in 2008 Science II will open in fall 2016 and add 108,000 square feet of new laboratory and classroom space for physics, geological sciences and science education Now is the time to invest in Science at Central. Be part of a $2 million fundraising effort to ensure that state-of-the-art technologies are installed in Science II when it opens in September 2016. Our science students deserve access to the newest technologies as they prepare for graduate programs and careers in science. We have $8 million in hand for this purpose, but need $2 million more to purchase all of the best technologies currently available. We need today’s leading edge technologies to inspire and train the next generation’s leading scientists. Make a difference in the future of Science at Central by investing in: Rooftop Observatory with a 0.8 Meter Telescope Scanning Electron Microscope Water Chemistry Research Equipment Mineral, Geochemistry, Stable Isotope, and Ice Core Laboratories Acoustics Laboratory and Anechoic Chamber Laser and Optics Laboratories Planetarium and Large Lecture Hall INSERT SHEETS (Project Overview, Student Data, Award-Winning Faculty and Sheets for Major Naming Opportunities) Science II Overview Science Students at Central (data and photos showing growth of science programs) Award-Winning Science Faculty at Central (bios and photos) The Building (The Premiere Naming Opportunity) Observatory and Telescope Scanning Electron Microscope Water Chemistry Mineral, Geochemistry, Stable Isotope, and Ice Core Laboratories Acoustics Laboratory and Anechoic Chamber Laser and Optics Laboratories Planetarium and Large Lecture Hall
