Running Start at Central Washington University is very pleased to be partnering with your school to offer you this wonderful opportunity. Through our program, you are able to attend university level courses and receive college credit without leaving your high school campus. However, there are a few things that you should be aware of before you decide to participate in this program. Every semester, you will be able to take one college level course for free through running start or pay $55.00 per credit each trimester/semester. Also, you will be charged for each additional course that you choose to take during a given trimester/semester at a rate of $55.00 per credit. You will begin building an official college transcript the moment that you begin taking part in this program. Therefore, if you do well in your courses, you will build a transcript with a good grade point average. However, if you do poorly in your courses, it will be reflected on your transcript. It is important that you take these courses seriously because earning a low college GPA now can cause many problems when you begin your college life after graduating from high school. In fact, it is actually possible for you to begin your freshmen year of college on academic probation if you receive too many low CWU course grades while in high school. Once a grade is given it will not be changed even if you do not like it. When you apply begin applying to universities, you are required by law to submit all college grades that you have earned. It is actually possible to receive a grade of 0.0 in a CWU course. Your college grade point average can and probably will be different from your high school grade point average. Official university transcripts can only be obtained from CWU’s Registrar Services. Official transcripts will not be distributed by your High School or the Running Start Office. University deadlines for registration, dropping a course, and withdrawing from a course are nonnegotiable. o If you drop a course, you will not have to pay for your course and nothing will be put on your college transcript. o If you withdraw from a course, you will still have to pay for the course even if you do not complete it. Also if you withdraw from a course, a “W” will be put on your transcript. Once you enroll in one of our courses, you have the option of becoming conditionally admitted to CWU. That means once you graduate from high school, you will not need to fill out a CWU application, pay the application fee of $50, or pay a confirmation fee. All you will need to do is send your high school transcripts and SAT/ACT scores to CWU and you are officially a new Central Washington University Wildcat.
