Resolution In Support Of Class Size Reduction
In Prince William County Schools
WHEREAS, Prince William County Schools have the largest class sizes in the Commonwealth;
and
WHEREAS, PWCS currently spends less per pupil than any other school division in northern
Virginia;
and
WHEREAS, Prince William County dedicates a lower percentage of local funds to public education
than virtually any other jurisdiction in northern Virginia;
and
WHEREAS, school class size is a critical element in demonstrating the kind of quality public
schools that attract business development, encourage economic growth, and foster a healthy
community;
and
WHEREAS, PWCS students and staff at all levels are suffering the negative effects of
unreasonably large class sizes;
and
WHEREAS, smaller class sizes have been shown to enable greater individual attention to student
needs, more creative differentiated instruction, and an overall higher quality education experience
for students;
and
WHEREAS, population growth in Prince William County continues to drive PWCS class sizes even
higher;
and
WHEREAS, the students, parents, and school staff of Prince William County, as well as the future
of our community, all deserve better;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the
(name of organization)
emphatically supports a long-term community-wide commitment to permanently reduce class sizes
in Prince William County Schools and implores the Prince William County School Board and

to protect the future of Prince William County.
