Resolution In Support Of Class Size Reduction In Prince William County Schools WHEREAS, Prince William County Schools have the largest class sizes in the Commonwealth; and WHEREAS, PWCS currently spends less per pupil than any other school division in northern Virginia; and WHEREAS, Prince William County dedicates a lower percentage of local funds to public education than virtually any other jurisdiction in northern Virginia; and WHEREAS, school class size is a critical element in demonstrating the kind of quality public schools that attract business development, encourage economic growth, and foster a healthy community; and WHEREAS, PWCS students and staff at all levels are suffering the negative effects of unreasonably large class sizes; and WHEREAS, smaller class sizes have been shown to enable greater individual attention to student needs, more creative differentiated instruction, and an overall higher quality education experience for students; and WHEREAS, population growth in Prince William County continues to drive PWCS class sizes even higher; and WHEREAS, the students, parents, and school staff of Prince William County, as well as the future of our community, all deserve better; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the (name of organization) emphatically supports a long-term community-wide commitment to permanently reduce class sizes in Prince William County Schools and implores the Prince William County School Board and Prince William Board of County Supervisors to examine and adopt appropriate funding strategies to protect the future of Prince William County.
