GENERAL INFORMATION Job Title: PRE-REGISTRATION PHARMACIST Location: Bedford Hospital, South Wing Pharmacy Department Secondments to a local community pharmacy for Cross Sector Placement and Bedfordshire PCT at Ampthill (Other placements possibly to be arranged) Grade Band 5 No EDC Annual Leave: 27 days plus 8 Bank Holidays Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours) fixed term contract for one year 2. CONDITIONS OF SERVICE In accordance with the Trust Terms and Conditions of Employment as laid down in the Trust’s policies and procedures and the Agenda for Change Staff Handbook. 3. JOB SUMMARY To participate in the pharmacy pre-registration training plan provided by Bedford Hospital NHS Trust and associated training sites, working towards achievement of the competencies required by the RPSGB to register as a pharmacist at the end of the 12 month training period. 5. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 5.1 To participate in the departmental training plan Dispensary Purchasing, Stock Control and Distribution Medicines Information Clinical and Ward Pharmacy Aseptic Production Cross Sector Community Placement Bedfordshire PCT Appropriate patient care, maintenance of confidentiality and adherence to local policies and procedures is paramount at all times. 5.2 To participate in the London Pharmacy Education and Training (LPE&T) Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacist Programme. 5.3 To complete a small planned audit project and submit this to the LPE&T/Project Awards. 5.4 To regularly gather and maintain a portfolio of evidence of competence to practice according to RPSGB Performance Standards. 5.5 To regularly gather a portfolio of evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and to participate with colleagues to assist CPD activities. 5.6 To practice pharmaceutical calculations on a regular basis without the use of a calculator, to ensure a standard pass rate of 80% by week 39 of the training period. 5.7 To regularly meet and discuss performance with the local tutor, and participate in a system of performance appraisal as required by the RPSGB. 5.8 To undertake Saturday and Bank Holiday duties in the department as required by rota. 5.9 To participate in the training of other staff (once deemed competent to do so) as requested by the Education & Training Manager. 5.10 To carry out the professional responsibilities of a pharmacist in accordance with the law and ethics of the RPSGB, and to meet the registration requirements. 5.11 To maintain safe systems of work at all times. 5.12 To work in an organised and efficient manner to avoid unnecessary waste. 5.13 To participate in and encourage an open communication climate. 5.14 To value and acknowledge the contributions of colleagues. 5.15 To promote actively the cost-effective distribution and appropriate use of medicines in the best interests of patients. 5.16 To undertake other reasonable duties as may be deemed necessary for the efficient provision of services from the Pharmacy Department to the hospital and associated training sites. INFECTION PREVENTION AND CONTROL It is the duty of every employee to comply with The Health Act (2006): Code of Practice for the Prevention and Control of Healthcare Associated Infections (also known as “The Hygiene Code”). Effective prevention and control of healthcare-associated infections has to be embedded into everyday practice and applied consistently by everyone. Failure to do so may result in disciplinary action. The hospital is a partner in the Clean Your Hands Campaign. It is the responsibility of every staff member to be aware of and comply with the hand hygiene policy and campaign in all patient areas, and promote the ethos of the policy and campaign to all hospital users.
