Extend-A-Family Waterloo Region
STAFF AND DIVERSITY
Extend-a-Family Waterloo Region (hereinafter referred to as “EAF”) is committed to a diverse
workforce, reflective of the community we serve. EAF is committed to honouring and reflecting
Waterloo Region’s diversifying community by building an inclusive and anti-oppressive
employment team.
EAF believes that every employee has the right to work in an atmosphere that is safe and free
from oppression. Oppression in the workplace is defined as behaviour that is oppressive towards
any person or any group of people based on grounds stated in the Human Rights code, 1981 (part
1) race, ancestry, place of origin, colour, ethnic origin, citizenship, creed, sex, sexual orientation,
age, record of offences, marital status, family status or disability. It is expected that all our
employees, volunteers and service users will conduct themselves in a manner that is respectful
and mindful of the rights of others. Oppressive behaviours including written or spoken
comments, pictorials or physical gestures based on any of the above prohibited grounds are not
acceptable at EAF.
We are taking a number of steps to ensure we continue our progress towards becoming a truly
inclusive organization. We have a thriving and active Anti-Oppression Committee that leads us
in our efforts to shift our organization at a cultural level. We continue to access the ongoing
services of Dr. Leeno Karumanchery, of Diversity Solutions Inc., to act as our external resources
person and Anti-Oppression subject matter expert.
If any employee needs clarification or needs to discuss an issue related to our anti-oppression
program, he/she is encouraged to bring the issue forward to his/her supervisor; a member of the
Anti-Oppression Committee; the internal Consultant for Organizational Development or
our Diversity Solutions representative.
