Waterloo Culture and Arts Commission Executive Director Department: Grade: FLSA: Civil Service: Bargaining Unit: Waterloo Cultural and Arts Commission/Waterloo Center for the Arts (64) Exempt Excluded Non Bargaining General Description Professional and administrative position responsible for directing all staff in the planning, coordinating, and implementation of all cultural and arts programs, exhibitions and collection activities for the Waterloo Center for the Arts. Duties include but are not limited to the following: oversees selection and development of exhibits, educational programs and classes, catalogs, promotional materials, special events, collection and conservation activities; directs Culture and Arts Commission and Friends of the Art Center activities; hires, trains, supervises and evaluates all Center for the Arts staff; oversees the physical operations of the Center for the Arts; develops, manages annual Commission budget; supervises the writing and dissemination of all Center for the Arts materials; writes grant applications, oversees grant budgets, directs staff in submission of grants and final reports; supervises the organization and implementation of the annual arts and crafts sale and other fund raising events and activities; supervises the selection of materials for the Library; facilitates relations between organizations residing in or meeting in the Center for the Arts as well as in the community. Represents Art Center/Cultural and Arts Commission in the city, state and region. Adequate vision in order to perform assigned administrative duties. 4. Able to work alone and independently without direct supervision. 5. Able to work under strict time constraints and stressful conditions. 6. Possess the necessary skills to supervise and direct staff in the delivery of programs and services. 7. Able to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing with employees and members of the public. 8. Ability to work with diverse groups of people from a broad variety of social, economic, racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds. 9. Ability to move physically within the department and from department to department within the City. D:\687305551.doc Minimum Qualifications 1. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Arts, Art Education or Museum Education and a minimum of five years progressively more responsible experience in art education or museum management. 2. Ability to coordinate, direct and review art programs and activities of the Waterloo Center for the Arts. 3. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing; able to establish and maintain excellent relationships with the public, arts related community groups, subordinate, government officials, and civic organizations. 4. Previous public speaking and outreach experience preferred. 5. Work Schedule Generally 8:00 – 5:00 Monday through Friday.
