Identifying the Stakeholders
List all of your stakeholders and then tick the box that you think relates to this
stakeholder.
 If the stakeholder has several ticks you can identify them as ‘core’ or
‘key’ stakeholders.
 Those with fewer ticks are ‘peripheral’ stakeholders.

Project Name:
Stakeholder
Responsibility
However, even those with fewer ticks may be core, IF their level of
engagement is CRUCIAL to the project.
You can understand this by asking the following question:
Is the engagement of this stakeholder VITAL to enhancing the quality of life
and standard of living of the individual, group or community in this project?
Stakeholders to whom you have a duty and/or feel
accountable to.
Influence
Stakeholders with decision-making power or who can
influence your project because they have a critical skill
and/or knowledge; or because they are a ‘key’ person in the
life of your individual, group, community.
Proximity
Stakeholders with whom you interact most. This can include
internal stakeholders as well as external stakeholders.
Dependency
Stakeholders who will directly or indirectly be affected by
your project.
Even though stakeholders may be indirectly affected, the
magnitude or strength of the effect may be of sufficient
importance for you to consider them as a key stakeholder.
The effect can be positive or negative.
Representation Stakeholders who can claim to represent an individual,
group or community to whom you have responsibility,
influence or have a level of dependency with, as a result of
your project.
