5. Commodores Report
Manuela wishes to thank all the committee for their hard work. Special thanks to Helen for
the setup of the website and her work on Telltales. They both look great.
6. Vice Commodores Report
All of the Moorings have now been rented out.
FNDC have agreed to sponsor the membership lucky draw. Prize will be a lift, clean and 3
days on the hard plus 1 free pot of antifouling from Robert Auckett Painters.
There has been some interest in Ladies Sailing lessons. It would however be good to get
more people signed up. Spread the word as the deal is very generous. Thanks to Great
Escape Yacht Charters.
7. Financial Report
The club has had to purchase and register our own copy of the MYOB programme at a cost
of $465. This is the same program that has been in use till now so there should be a smooth
changeover.
Cost of TELLTALES printing is $642 plus GST per month. We have approx 50% of the cost
covered by advertising.
Accounts approved for payment as per schedule.
(Reece/Manuela)
8. Membership Report
Approx. 100 memberships have been paid and the cards have been mailed out. This
includes the prepaids and life members.
There is a $25 bill for laminating.
A Reminder that the Membership draw will be on 27 August.
9. Advertising and promotion
The Website still has a couple more things to be added. There has been a request for a
“crew available” section to be added. A shop page is to be added to sell burgees, T shirts
and calendars.
The Telltales are to be printed by another company this month for the same price but with a
quicker print time of 2 days. We still need 10 – 15 more advertisers to cover costs. The
advertising price is $300 which includes a listing on the website. Helen will be following up
with some potential new advertisers as well as doing a lot of cold calling.
Reports for the next edition of Telltales need to be in by the end of the week.
A Mailbox drop throughout Opua is planned for the end of the month. We have enough
volunteers to deliver. We will be advertising our Bistro specials, bar and sports evenings.
Dave to email through the race results for posting on Facebook and the local newspaper.
10. Racing report
Russell and Kerikeri Clubs have sent us copies of their draft calendars. Dave will send a
formal invite to the other clubs to join our weekend races.
Letters have been sent to our Spring/Summer series sponsors. Thanks to Cater Marine for
sponsoring our spring series and providing prizes for A, B, and C divisions and Ashby’s
boatyard for sponsoring the same for our Summer Series. Anne of Craicor is once again
sponsoring our Ladies Spring/Summer series.
Lion NZ regatta date has been set for the 3 September. Cost $40 a head. OCC have been
approached to umbrella the event. (All in favour)
We have been sent a Safety Manual. Discussion over responsibility established that our
racing rules have a disclaimer that covers responsibility. All responsibility is on the racing
yachts and their skippers.
Races have been fairly well attended with 7 – 9 boats out racing. 3 -4 for ladies races. There
has only been 1 alteration made to the handicaps and so far no complaints.
We still need to get more people involved as race starters. Thanks so far to Brett, Chris,
Mary, and Ian.
Entry fee for racing is to be increased to $100 a year. (All in favour)
A Ladies Race subcommittee has been set up. Anna, Jenny and Nina. There was a decision
made to change the winter Ladies racing rules to read that there should be a woman on the
helm. This was done to encourage more race crews out during winter.
11. Bar and Kitchen
We have been notified by the suppliers (DB) that there is to be an increase in Excise Tax
which will mean a price increase for beer. We will need to increase our prices for drinks in
the near future.
12. Cruising Report
Sunday cruise this weekend. The destination (weather dependent) will be posted on the
Board Sunday morning.
13. Social Report
The mid winter dinner was a great success and enjoyed by all. The entertainment was
entertaining – general consensus great evening
Next social is the P evening. Tickets for sale at $10 a head. Thanks to Reece who is donating
the Punch for the evening.
14. Youth Sailing
The rib has been repaired – leak fixed, VHF fixed, logbook started. Bill will be about $500.
Many thanks to Roger and Georgie Porter, Carol and Brian (Makana), and Darren and
Wendy Crawford (Great Escape Yacht Charters) for their extremely generous donations.
A Starling has been purchased thanks to Carol and Brian of Makana Chocolates (plus a
double trailer which is warranted and registered.) Darren and Wendy Crawford of Great
Escape Yacht Charters have loaned us a starling. We are still looking for a third boat to
purchase with funds donated by Roger and Georgie Porter. Youth sailing will still be
fundraising for maintenance costs and other extras.
Opua School will be participating in the next school term youth group sailing programme.
15. House
Almost all the quotes are in for the roof. We have 2 options.
1. Hard roof.
Colorsteel, laserlite and purlins will be approx $9600. Building consent $500. Still need to
cost fixings and extra timber. The plan and costings so far are for a colorsteel roof with
every third panel in laserlite.
2. Canvas replacement.
There was some discussion of the options. Taking in to consideration the inability to re
insure a canvas replacement and whether it would be any stronger than the previous canvas
covers, the vote was for the hard roof option. Reece will talk to FNDC re our plans. Thanks
to Roger Topliss who has donated all his time and expertise to engineer our replacement
roof.
General Business
Security. The two quotes were compared and discussed. The decision is to go with the
local company.
(Reece/Jono)
Bistro Menu. A suggestion was made that the Bistro menu has a different weekly special
each week. Brett will discuss the possibility with Jim.
