ALMA SCHRADER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
June 30, 2015
Dear Families:
Welcome to the 2015-16 school year! Enclosed with this letter should be:


a calendar of events for the 2015-16 school year;
the School Supply List for the 2015-16 school year;
Remember that Orientation and Back-to-School Night are combined into one large event so please do make
it a priority to attend this event. The schedule is designed to allow those of you with more than one child to
have an opportunity to attend room orientations at separate times. It is also designed to allow you to sign up for
PTO, text alerting, email alerting, a Parent Portal which allows you to view your child(ren)’s grades, and a
service that will allow you to manage your child(ren)’s lunch accounts online.
Our schedule will be:
5:30 – 6:15
6:15 – 7:00
7:00 – 7:45
7:45 – 8:30

In response to feedback given by families, we have designed orientation so that families go to the rooms first.
We have also extended the time families can be in the classroom to allow teachers time to go over classroom
procedures and answer any questions you might have about the teacher’s policies and procedures. You will then
have the opportunity to go to the cafeteria to make any spirit wear purchases and also volunteer for any of our
many events we have at Alma Schrader throughout the year. You will also have time to go by the computer lab
to establish an email account and/or sign up for the Infinite Campus Parent Portal.

Please note that in response to parent requests, we are updating the website (alma.capetigers.com) to include
access to forms that you would need to complete for the school year. This would include the Emergency Card,
Computer Use Agreement, Cell Phone Use Agreement (if your child would be carrying a cell phone to school),
and a document regarding the health curriculum. If you are new to Alma Schrader, there are also documents
new families would need to complete in addition to the documents already mentioned including the Enrollment
Form and a Release of Information form. Returning families would not need to complete a new Enrollment
Form or Release of Information.
Orientation is planned for Monday, August 10th at Alma Schrader Elementary.

Keep in mind this evening is an orientation time for parents and students which means the emphasis
will be on an overview of the upcoming school year. Parents/guardians wishing to have an in-depth
conference regarding an individual student should be prepared to set up an appointment with the teacher
at a later date.
Students should come with their school supplies (see enclosed list) to be prepared to put supplies away
in cubbies and desks.
Parents/guardians of students with medical needs should definitely make plans to meet with the nurse
in the Nurse’s Office (Room 100) to sign any releases for medication dispensation (both
prescription and OTC). Please note that NO medication can be administered to a student without
formal written permission by a parent/guardian. There are also guidelines about the containers in
which medications are sent that MUST be followed for the safety and health of your child.
Because the orientations for Sessions I and II are identical, you may choose the times offered above to attend
orientation. You need not attend both sessions of the same grade level (i.e. Session I and Session II for
kindergarten are identical; however, the orientation for kindergarten would be different from that of first grade,
second grade, etc.). Because we are running two identical sessions of orientation, we would respectfully ask you
try to make it to one of the two sessions. Faculty or staff will not be available to meet with families/students
nor will families be able to tour the building on days other than Monday as we will be in in-service or
room preparation during those times.
We hope this gives you adequate time to plan for your attendance at Orientation. Should you have any questions,
please call the school office at 573-335-5310 or email me at ro@capetigers.com. I look forward to seeing you on
August 10.
Sincerely,
Ruth Ann Orr, Ed.D.
Principal
P.S. Due to the change in the district dress code policy, the Clothing Exchange Sale on August 7th is cancelled. I
am hoping the district will be providing a detailed handout on the new guidelines. The biggest change is in tops
which may contain patterns or graphics. Tops must still have sleeves, collars or, in the case of t-shirts, must be
crew-necked.
