Effective Date: April 1, 2014 (Updated September 29, 2014)

Policy/Procedure:

All students who wish to pursue an associate degree in nursing from Schiller International

University (SIU) must take the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS®) proctored assessment. This test measures basic essential skills in the academic content area domains of reading, mathematics, science and English and language usage. The 170-item test is timed at 209 minutes (Reading = 58 minutes; Mathematics = 51 minutes; Science = 66 minutes; English = 34 minutes). Students must score a minimum of 55 overall to be admitted to SIU. Only two (2) attempts are allowed to achieve the required score. Attempts must be at least one week between testing. SIU will not accept outside TEAS scores from other institutions after the second attempt has been completed.

Testing is scheduled at 10:00 a.m. every Tuesday and Friday. This scheduling plan allows students ample opportunities to take, and retake if necessary, the exam. Study tips and a study guide for the exam are available on the Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI) web site, https://www.atitesting.com

. Admissions staff members notify prospective students of the TEAS requirements and where/how to locate study assistance on the ATI site. There are no fees charged for testing.

It is imperative that the assigned proctor be available and in the testing room no less than 15 minutes prior to the scheduled testing start time. This allows the proctor to perform the following preparatory tasks:

1.

Turn on enough computers to accommodate the students who are testing. Login to each station and open the testing website: http://www.atitesting.com

2.

Prepare 3-4 sheets of blank 8.5x11 paper, with a sharpened #2 pencil for each student.

3.

On the upper corner of the blank sheets provided, the Student Name and Test code will be written. This allows the proctor to collect and document the written work performed by each student, as well as to identify any student who left the testing room without

4.

submitting the written work to the Proctor.

The Proctor will then follow the procedures set forth by the ATI Test Proctoring Manual and adhere to all regulations and responsibilities as set forth by the ATI Proctor Oath.
