UAB SUSTAINABILITY FUND, FALL 2015
GRANT APPLICATION GUIDELINES
What can the grant cover?
A student or organizational grant from the UAB Sustainability Investment Fund may be given for
any of the following criterion:
1.
Projects related to increasing the energy efficiency of existing UAB facilities.
2.
Projects devoted to improving the capacity of UAB’s recycling initiatives.
3.
Projects aimed at mitigating the environmental impact of on-campus activities.
4.
Sustainability-oriented educational programs hosted on campus for UAB students.
The grant WILL NOT cover:
1.
Initiative advertising
2.
Protests or meetings
3.
Consumption compensation
What is the application process?
The first step is coming up with an idea. Look around the campus, observe ongoing behaviors,
ask questions, and do research! If you feel that UAB is engaged in wasteful behavior, investigate
the alternatives and educate yourself on the costs associated with change. Your project can be as
grand or modest in scope as you feel prepared to handle. Once you’ve landed on a general idea,
the next step is putting together a project proposal.
PROJECT PROPOSAL
This should be a simple, 1-2 page summary of your reasoning, your plan, and your goals moving
forward with the project. Though it is not required, you may find it helpful to include infographics and charts. A sample proposal is included at the end of this document. Along with your
proposal, the Sustainability Investment Fund Board requires you to file a budget.
BUDGET
A budget is an itemized list of the anticipated costs of your project. Providing the Sustainability
Investment Fund Board with a simple budget ensures that grant funds are appropriately
distributed. You’ll find a sample budget with the proposal announcement at
www.uab.edu/sustainability/sustainability-fund.
How do I submit my proposal?
Complete your proposal similar to the sample at the end of this document. Save as a word
document or PDF and email to sustainability@uab.edu by midnight on Friday, November 6, 2015.
**After submission of your proposal, you will be notified of a meeting date for your proposal
review with the Board. You are encouraged to sit in during the review of your submission to
answer any questions the Board may have for you. Winners will be notified on Friday, December
5, 2015.
