Faculty Position in Health Informatics & Information Management Department of Health Services Administration School of Health Professions University of Alabama at Birmingham The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Health Professions (SHP) Department of Health Services Administration (HSA) announces an opening for an academic leader for our graduate program in Health Informatics and Information Management. Our Master of Science in Health Informatics (MSHI) degree program was started in 1991and is currently offered in a blended delivery format, with tracks in Data Analytics, User Experience, and Health Information Management. The program is located in the Department of Health Services Administration, along with the following academic programs: two doctoral programs (Ph.D.; Executive D.Sc.); two master’s programs in Health Administration (ranked 2nd in the nation), a new graduate program in Healthcare Quality and Safety; and an AUPHA- certified undergraduate program in Health Care Management. The department is currently delivering programs internationally, and offers a variety of executive and other training opportunities. The selected applicant will join a diverse and vibrant academic community. With 35 faculty members and an enrollment of over 700 students, the Department has a solid fiscal foundation and an engaged community of alumni and other practitioners. Department faculty engage in multidisciplinary research programs with faculty from the UAB Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Public Health, Business, and Engineering. UAB has established a new campus-wide Informatics Institute. The Institute and its Director (James J. Cimino, MD) are active partners with the Department and MSHI program. We are seeking a colleague with informatics expertise and experience in one or more of the following areas: medical or health informatics, data analytics, user experience, healthcare information systems. Experience in informatics education, practice, and educational leadership are desirable. Major responsibilities will include participation in funded research, leadership of the MSHI program, classroom and distance instruction, curriculum development, and student mentorship. The ideal candidate will have an earned doctorate degree in a relevant discipline. Salary, rank, and tenure status will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
