Extra Credit Points Possible: up to 10 (based on quality of connections, presentation, and time and
effort)
Options: You can only do one of the options.
1) Find an advertisement (print, TV, internet, etc.). Compare it to the 1920s advertisements we
looked at in class, addressing the following in a 1 to 2 page analysis (typed, double spaced).
 What is the target audience of your advertisement (address race, social class,
gender, etc.)?
 What advertising strategies are used in your advertisement (address style,
layout/design, photography, music, etc.)?
 What emotions are being manipulated in your advertisement?
 How is your advertisement similar to the advertisements from the 1920s?
 How is your advertisement different from the advertisements from the 1920s?
2) Create your own original advertisement in the style of 1920s advertisements. Your ad must be
an original creation (not copied from the Internet, magazine, etc.). Make sure to incorporate
similar strategies as the ones used by the 1920s ads. In a paragraph, explain who your target
audience is, what strategies you used in your ad, what emotions you were aiming at
manipulating.
