ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PRINCIPAL
The Chippewa Hills School District is seeking a highly motivated individual for the position of
Principal for Chippewa Hills Mecosta Elementary School.
QUALIFICATIONS
 Masters degree in Educational Administration or related field from an accredited college or
university
 Valid Elementary Michigan Teaching Certificate
 Five years successful experience at the elementary level in teaching, supervision or administration
 Meet any State of Michigan requirements for elementary school principal.

QUALIFICATIONS:

 Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with all levels of
management, staff, students, parents and community.
 Meet any State of Michigan requirements for elementary school principal.

GENERAL PROVISIONS:
The principal is the chief administrative officer of the school. The principal shall be accountable to the
superintendent for the instructional program and building operations.
The Board of Education hires all district employees who are ultimately accountable to the Board
through the Superintendent. At the building level, the principal, working with the instructional and
non-instructional staff, has direct authority over the students and building visitors. The instructional
staff is accountable to the principal, and the non-instructional staff is supervised by the principal.
On a regular basis, the principal shall keep the superintendent informed of conditions and activities
occurring within the school building.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:


















Make available to all employees directives, rules, regulations, policies, and information issued
by the Superintendent and Board of Education.
Maintain discipline throughout the student body, establish and maintain a safe, orderly
environment with the building and on the campus. Assist in handling bus discipline.
Provide leadership for the staff, maintain high standards, and establish an environment where
mutual respect is evident.
Promote communication and mutual understanding between staff and parents.
Be responsible for the building budget and approving all expenditures for instructional
equipment, supplies, text, etc. and submitting them to the business office for approval in a
timely manner.
Supervise the reporting and monitoring of student attendance, and follow up with enforcement
of the attendance policy.
Be responsible for:
o Class schedules
o Fire, tornado, and lockdown drills
o School exhibits and activities during and after school
o Class, playground, lunch, and recess schedules
o Building use schedules
Participate in planning, implementing and evaluating the effectiveness of the curriculum in the
school, and within the district.
Assist in the recruitment, selection and orientation of staff.
Evaluate all teachers and support staff according to district policies and Master Agreements.
Organize and work with school improvement team to develop and work toward building and
district level goals.
Be responsible for faculty and inservice meetings.
Be responsible for the maintenance of attendance, child accounting records, and other reports
that may be required.
Conduct all IEP meetings for students in your jurisdiction.
Use technology to more effectively perform administrative tasks and promote integration of
instructional technology into the curriculum.
Participate actively in professional development to keep abreast of education trends and
research appropriate for students we serve.
Participate as a member of the administrative team of the district.
Be responsible for such other duties as are assigned by the Superintendent.
