This course is designed for non-native speakers of English and aims
a. to assist students to read and understand basic texts
b. to introduce students to the basic skills needed for writing in English
c. to raise awareness of the linguistic features of descriptive and informative texts
d. to build on students’ knowledge of the linguistic resources for writing in English
e. to raise awareness of the linguistic features of expository texts

This course is designed for non-native speakers of English
Textual resources in English: simple and complex sentence structure; meaning relations and cohesion; organisation vocabulary and grammar of descriptive
and informative texts; paragraph structure, textual coherence
Reading skills and strategies: predicting, skimming, scanning, identifying main pojnts and supporting detail, extensive reading
Writing skills and strategies: organise and record vocabulary and grammar effectively; writing as a process; recognise own weak areas; summarise & evaluate texts,
record vocabulary
Text types: descriptive, narrative, informative, process; simple genres (e.g. letter, report) expository, compare & contrast, define & classify
